ok...a 1998 explorer/ranger dual media head unit..p/n F87F-18C868-AD. Question is how can you tell PHYSICALLY if the unit requires a sub? Was it AUDIOPHILE OR PREMIUM(not requiring a sub)? Is it the pin connectors I should look for on the rear of the unit? If so which connectors do what(aside from the base two-...4 total)..............thanks all!

I believe this info can be found in the "quick reference for audio forum" at the to of the threads list.

F87F-18C868-AD is an "Audiophile" level head unit (it needs a SW) for a 4-door Explorer. The EQ built into the radio is for a 4 door model WITH a Subwoofer. The EQ would be less than ideal in a 2 door, and would sound terrible in a 2 OR 4 door WITHOUT a SW, due to the low frequencies being directed to the SW channel.
