Hi guys!, long time member here. I have a 2008 V8 Eddie Bauer. Which goes into limp mode with a check engine light and the wrench light on the display. I got a reader, Forscan, and keep getting a P0600 code. Looked it up and got "serial comunication error". Where do I start?

Thanks in advance.

P0600 FORD - Loss of Serial Communication Link
Possible causes
  • Faulty Engine control Module (ECM)
  • Engine control Module(ECM) harness is open or shorted
  • Engine control Module (ECM) circuit poor electrical connection
  • Low battery voltage
  • I would look at them from bottom-up. imp

I just got a refurbed VIN programmed PCM from eBay for $180 for my V6

OK checked voltage engine running is 14.4V at the battery. Engine off is 13.5 at the battery. How do I check the connection at the ECM?

The question becomes, which connection at the ECM? I think since it goes into limp mode, but does not stop running altogether (is this correct?), we can rule out loss of power to the ECM, therefore the Power Relay must be OK, connections feeding other computer outputs such as spark, fuel pump, and injectors must be OK.

My 2004 Powertrain Control Manual does not even list P0600, so no help there. Checking connections in the PCM (ECM) harness is not an easy proposition. Easiest way here might be to bite the bullet and get a replacement ECM and plug it in. If same problem exists, replace PCM harness.

I'm assuming there were no other codes? imp
