How to upload an avatar?

Ok, im new to this site and there are still several things im not sure how to do. I want to upload my own avatar of my explorer. I went to (edit avatar) but there was no option for uploading your own avatar but it does say something about being able to and i see other people with pics of their vehicle as their avatar. Can anyone help me and let me know how to upload a picture of my explorer as my avatar?

You have to be Elite to be able to have an avatar. Elite membership is just $20 a year. As an elite member you can also post parts for sale and upload pics with out having to use a photo hosting site.

My username in red means I'm an Elite Member. Blue is non-elite.
