My dad has a 95 Explorer with 180,000 miles that had several driveability issues, stalling, no start, and severe hesitation all the way through the RPM band. The throttle was sticking right as you begin to depress it so I thought to myself the entire intake was probably carboned up. I took everything apart, cleaned the IAT, MAF, IAC, IAC orifice, throttle body with brake cleaner and now it drives like a new car.

Here is my issue, the throttle body is now hollowing at the orifice for the IAC motor at idle and it is loud! If I partially cover it, the sound goes away. Any ideas as to why? I noticed it has a very rough finish with casting flash and sharp edges, should I bevel it with a dremel tool? Any help would be appreciated

Try replacing the IAC instead of cleaning it

I wouldnt dremel anything. Any chance you put the IAC on backwards? Sounds like it might need a little more cleaning?

Is this something you can hear with the intake hooked up and hood shut? Doesnt sound like something major unless it effects performance.

You cannot replace the IAC backwards, the harness won't reach in that event. Yeah you can hear it inside the car! It really is unbelievable. Replacing the IAC motor should'nt be necessary as the car has no issues now so if it was sticking, all seems well now.

Definately IAC valve

I had the same problem with my 95 xlt. I tried cleaning it, got a little better but still howled and idled bad. Replaced the IAC a few weeks later and problem disappeared. its actually a very common problem on ford trucks. It's been given the nickname of "fords mating call" by alot of people.

Never heard that term before. Mine seems to be making that noise intermittenly. It didnt start until after I removed the stock intake piping and replaced it with an aluminum one and some Spectre connectors etc. Assumed that was the culprit.
