HU Wiring for 96 Eddie Baeur (JBL w/ Sub)

Hello Forumers!!!

I really need someone's help if you could please. I have a wiring harness that is correct for my 96 Eddie (JBL w/ Sub: BLACK Square (OEM) and long gray connector (OEM)) and noticed that some of the wires' functions (not colors) don't match up correctly or that there are wires that have WIERD labels for them as indicated on the back of the sticker on the LONG GRAY connector (OEM).

I was wondering if someone could enlighten me with what OEM functions go to which OEM colored wire?

I've seen the setup that www.installdr.com has and tried to follow that diagram, but the labelling on the sticker is not worded correctly.

I desperately need some help Thank you guys, in advance, for anything you can tell me.

Just to clarify, for my question, I just need to know what COLORS go to which function on the OEM wiring (for the stock stereo).

Ford it seems can't keep anything straight. When I did my HU, my wiring book (from Ford) was incorrect. Also, the diagram I got from Crutchfield wasn't right either. However, the Crutchfield harness plugged right in and works corrects. Dunno, as long as it works I'm happy

Wiring Pinouts

Sorry, I thought this would be simple, but so far, it's not. I have not been able to find a diagram with the wire color codes, BUT, if you haven't chopped up the original harness connector, I can tell you the functions for the various wires in the factory connector. The black connector should be the "Power" connector. Looking at the connector, thinking of the spade terminals labeled one thru eight, top to bottom, the functions are:

Pin #1 A+ line - battery power
#2 Illumination ground
#3 Switched A+ (Run/Acc)
#4 Illumination power (backlighting)
#5 PTA - phone enable
#6 Ground
#7 Blank - no connection
#8 Run/Start

I will go and double-check the connections tonight. I'll bring back ALL the wire colors and supposed functions for each. I want to get this thing nailed down.

We'll have this figured out by tomorrow's end.

QUICK UPDATE:

Hey Gang...

Just wanted to let you know that I went down to the Ford Dealership here in Cheney, WA and talked "STEREO" with a guy that worked there. I, of course, wanted to know the WIRING DIAGRAM for the Stock Stereo for my Eddie B. and he showed me the PICS in the book that had the WIRE COLORS and FUNCTIONS for each. I'll be posting all this a little later.

As far as that goes, I also called Magnolia Hi-Fi to make sure my nightmare wasn't coming true. Magnolia Hi-Fi assured me that the WIRE HARNESS that they provide for a PREMIUM sound system (JBL w/SUB) will work just fine, and they have never had anyone's system not work with the correct harness.

THE NIGHTMARE:
As pertaining to what that BLACK (16-hole) harness's function is, it only goes back to the 1st AMP in the back-right panel, then goes out to all 4-speakers. :O

So basically, that harness that I bought wouldn't actually go "TO THE SPEAKERS" and instead, it would only go back to the PRELIMINARY AMP in the back. = is what I thought. This would mean I might as well run NEW speaker wire from the headunit snap-on harness and call it good.

HOPEFULLY, it doesn't come true!!!!!!!!!!!

Learning More:

Hey guys. Just wanted to let you know that my nightmare isn't going to come true. YEA!!!

However, I do have ONE minor problem: The wiring harness that plugs into the SQUARE BLACK connector on my PREMIUM sound doesn't fit!!!!! I tried trimming only the NECESSARY and obvious places on both the FORD Wiring piece and also the WIRING HARNESS plastic piece, but it still doesn't fit. I was told that this was the correct wiring harness for my X, but only the long GRAY connector fits perfectly.

Anyway, does anyone know of a place I could see a wiring harness PIC of the SQUARE BLACK connector for the FORD PREMIUM sound in '96? Please let me know.

Also, as far as what the Steps are that I'm going to have to do:
1.) Attach the wiring harness to the FORD wiring connectors and solder the CORRECT leads from the AFTERMARKET CD player to the Wiring harness.
2.) (Note: the wire colors/functions that FORD placed there for the stereo and what COLORS/FUNCTIONS I connected the wiring harness) Then, Follow the speaker lines back to the AMPLIFIER in the rear-right panel and clip them off and connect them to the CORRECT FUNCTION wire coming out of the Amplifier (going to the speakers). Now as I understand, there is a BYPASS HARNESS to bypass this amplifier without cutting any of the wires and keeping the Plastic connectors in place and merely snapping them together (though I have not seen this AMP BYPASS HARNESS yet. If anyone has a PIC of this harness, I would love to see it).

Well, that's pretty much it as far as how my NIGHTMARE didn't unfold. I WON"T HAVE TO RUN NEW SPEAKER WIRE THROUGHOUT!!! YEA!!!!!.

I also purchased a 1m. Mirco-XLN RCA Interconnect today to go from my Alpine (aftermarket) to my Audio Control EQ. I also bought 25ft of REMOTE-ON wire and 2ft. of "+" and "-" Biwire (all monster cable wires). I'm VERY close to getting ready to doing my install. All I have left is:
1.) Wait for my CAP to get here.
2.) Get the correct wiring harness for my BLACK SQUARE connector.
3.) Solder all necessary wires.
4.) Build the CUSTOM enclosure in the rear right panel for my CAP and AMP (removing the factory SUB/AMP and build a wooden enclosure + carpet the "floor" of it)
5.) Build my SUB-Box and carpet that + "attach it" (with a lock) to the rear of my X.
6.) Still have to run my REMOTE-ON back to the back panel (for the cap and amp)
7.) And last but not least: FIND A GOOD ROUTE for my 4-AWG

Weeeellllll..... Sorry for all the BORING details... but it's more or less a note to myself. hehe

hey i have a question along these lines...i have a 96 sport premium cassette, and had a problem with the factory radio, where periodically the right speaker channel (front and back, i believe,) would cut out like 50%. So i bought the pioneer deh-7400MP and had that installed at a local ghetto stereo store, but i'm not sure if they "bypassed" the factory rear amplifier because i am experiencing a Similar problem, although much less often. the harness they orginally were going to use looked like the one described in this thread, but then they ended up using one with two RCA-looking connectors...so am i plugged into the f-ed up factory amp? and is there any way to fix this without having to put a whole new wiring harness? i'm pretty sure if i can figure this out i can make thenm fix it for free. thanks

Does your aftermarket wiring harness consolidate all the speaker-level outputs to run to the factory amp? Upon tearing apart my 95 with the JBL, there is no speaker-level output from the HU, only signal-level, where the factory amp does all the processing/routing/outputs to speaker level. At the time I did my install (~spring 99) I couldn't find any adapters that actually worked. I ended up running new speaker wire to each door - a pain in the a** but well worth it in sound quality (especially with my new Alpine deck). The crap of it was that I lost the sub in doing so, and was forced to buy a new sub/amp. The factory sub could be re-used, but the sub amp needed a low-pass filter or a dedicated sub-output pre-filtered.

Anyhoo, I now have maybe 15 pounds of Ford/JBL garbage stowed in the rear quarter panel of my Exp because some genius decided to get funky with how they designed the audio system. Starting from scratch may be a pain, but the results are always better!

My meager but decent-sounding setup:
Alpine CDA-7873 Ai-Net HU w/RCA aux input (for the laptop!)
Stock JBL door speakers
Monster Cable wiring
Orion Cobalt 702 sub amp
Orion XTR 10" sub in sealed 0.9 cu. ft. enclosure

Mike, the plugs for the Premium and the JBL systems are different. You should find one that is for the JBL systems.
