humming gets louder as speed increases

Wtf overheating again, not the thermo or the pump and it only happens when going up hill for a long stretchs

hows the fan clutch ? blockage in front of radiator like bugs,:salute: etc.

radiator is clean of mud and the clutch is working its stumped me and friends. the motor has 171 k miles and still runs good. on second tranny w/ less than 5 k mikes on it.
 






I have an '04 XLT and the rear end is where my humming noise comes from.Changed the gear oil,and it got quite.Less than a year later it started again.Changed the gear oil again using Lucas,that kept it quite for about a year.
 






Humming noise coming from the engine could be IACV (Idle air control valve) replace it like $25 at autozone. worked on my 95 Ranger hummed when i sat in so. California Traffic, was embarassing lol

can"t tell when the truck drives by me but when you turn to the right at speed the sound goes away???????

Its a wheelbearing! if it makes the sound whenever the truck is moveing and it stops only when you turn a certain way. Its def the wheel bearing!!! It sounds like the truck is moaning!!!
 






Changed the drivers side wheel bearing assembly noise is gone!!!!!Thanks
 






Have you carefully let go of the steering wheel while on a flat and straight strench of road to see if it pulls one direction or another? If it pulls to either direction, that can be an indication that you need a wheel alignment.

One thing that comes to mind is gears. When the gears in the rear-end were almost shot in my 1998 F-150, it produced a howling noise. Also, in a 1992 Mustang I had owned, the rear-end had leaked all the fluid out and caused a humming noise that I couldn't pinpoint until I saw the oily dust that had collected. Could it be anything like that?

I have the humming/whining also, I've had it for over a year I'm sure.. it has gotten worse a select few times I was hard on my truck. I'm 90% sure it's the front diff letting you know it's wearing down. It's not an imediate danger but it should be taken care of sooner or later to prevent complete failure. If you're that worried about it, and the roads are nice.. you could always drop the front driveshaft to decrease the load on it. But then you'd have to apply and parking brake everytime you park so it slowly doesn't roll away, which is a risk in itself because a sudden change like that... Someone is gonna forget to put it on, or take it off.. which will lead to either a truck that's moved a few inches after you get outta the store [if you're on a slope] or completely burnt up parking brake pads.
 












i have 2007 making same sound. it was diagnosed as wheel bearing. now imma try to put it in myself. lol!!!!!!!!!!

when you turn to the right, you load up the left side and when you turn to the left, you load up the right. so if you turn right and the noise gets quieter it would be a problem with the right side, if it gets louder then it would be the left side.
 






Not always, I did the same test and it was the other side. If one is bad the other one probably is adding to the noise too. Mine were both shot, I pulled the shield from the bearings after I changed them.
 






common problem on my 98 explorer is front driveshaft goes out makes a growling noise on acceleration replaced it 3 times now 50. dollars at scrapyard
wheel bearings go out alot to on my 2nd set of those lol
you can't check play in the wheel bearings ! on the vehicle you can only check upper and lower ball joints by wiggling the tire back and forth even then you need a pry bar and another person to help:salute:

If it's bad enough, yes you can. I've done this, you can actually see the play in the hub assembly when they start to go out if you move the tire. And trust me, let it go long enough.. you could probably fit your hand in the amount of play, very dangerous.
 






I've replaced one rear bearing on my mountaineer and my wife's explorer. I could easily feel the play in them.
I also replaced both front hubs on each vehicle. I couldn't feel any play in any of them. It really only showed it's ugly face after removal. I peeled the grease shields off the bearings, they were dry and shot.
 






when you turn to the right, you load up the left side and when you turn to the left, you load up the right. so if you turn right and the noise gets quieter it would be a problem with the right side, if it gets louder then it would be the left side.
