Humming noise and wiggly wheels

In the last few days the Ex has started making some funny noises. It has a hum from the front that increases/decreases with speed. Jacked up the front end and discovered that both wheels now have play in them, the passenger side quite a bit worse than the drivers. Passenger side up/down/left/right. Drivers side mostly up/down. Also, it seems to pull to the left under braking now. What parts do you fellow Ex owners think I need to replace this weekend? Thanks for your help.

Play is often caused by worn ball joints, pulling to the left could be a brake issue...

I'm hoping for ball joints- cheaper than hubs. Way cheaper than CV joints. Going to pull the wheels off tomorrow after work and poke around a bit.
