Ok, I'm pretty much of a mechanical dufus. So I'm so happy to have stumbled across this website.

My question stems from an increasing "hummng" sound when I reach speeds over 30 mph. This is not affected by my rpm level at all. The sound is very similar to when passing anther truck with oversized tires.

I've asked a few mechanics and have gotten blank stares.

I've got a 94 xlt 4.0 L.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Welcome to the site. This following site may be of good use to you in the future Dead Link Removed

What kind of tires do you have?? Also, have you modified your airbox in any way?? Have you checked the differential fluid levels?? Can you be more specific about where/what vicinity the sound is emanating from?

The first thing that came to my mind was Wheel bearings, might wanna give them a check

TPLynch My tires are standard Dunlop AT LT235/75R15

I haven't modified my airbox at all. Fluid levels are OK I did have those checked. I'm inclined to believe it could be my wheel bearings. I'm not sure of how to check them but the hub is very warm to the touch after a short drive. (under 10 miles)

Almost forgot - the sound appears to be coming from the from front end. I really can't be more specific at the moment. The frequency of the sound is rather low so it's hard to pinpoint.

I'm going to try another mechanic tomorrow for a 3rd opinion.

Any other other thoughts are welcome
Thanks

could be a lot of things from unbalanced tires to
just needing a wheel alignment, loose or worn bearings.
loose ball joints,so as you can see unless you get dirty and get under there, you wont really know for sure.so
unless you trust your mechanic.!!
