humming noise coming from (seems like) the center dash console

I have an off and on humming noise in a 2000 Sport, it seems to come from behind the dash, sort of behind the radio. not too low, but not the radio itself either. It is louder at times but is fairly consistent, it doesn't go up and down in pitch or volume much. any ideas??

Same thing on my 2000 XLT. Only on acceleration from a stop. Kind of a whining noise.

No solutions?
