hypermiling vs mpg's ?

All you need to do is watch your antenna to see the effect. Please guys, I run 35 trucks- don't draft them closer than a few seconds. Stuff happens, tire caps blow off, it's not worth the possibilities to travel a few carlengths behind and stress out the driver. They really do see you back there, and spend as much time looking back to see where you are as they do looking ahead, and that isn't safe.

What would you say is a safe distance??? I use the whole if i can see thier side mirrors than im far enough back???

....hey ..... i have had people follow me so closelly that i would be 65 in a 40 mph zone and they were at least 6 feet or closer from my bumper for miles(and they almost hit me numerous times ) all the while on the road trying to get them from not rideing my bumper ( like speeding up "fast" ,looking at them in my mirror etc... (they knew what they were doing)) when they turned off i gave them the one finger salute and to my amazment they gave me one back ! hows that for stupidity .:wtf: so hypermiling in my opion now is not a good idea in however you classify it .

well, you know the law in georgia is if someone hits you from behind, it's THEIR fault. plain and simple.

someone was tailgating me on a regular road, and i slammed the brakes, they hit me.

i got my bumper, a new spare, and the lock on the back hatch was fixed "due to accident"....

give 'em a scare, they'd rather backoff then wreck.

:shifty_ey ......my rear bumper is a little off center ( and i would like new one ) ....like it was hit before.

hmmmmmm ! :D

All you're going to do is piss truckers off by doing this. Not to mention, have any of you been behind a semi when one of their tires blows out? Yeah, not fun.

...i know al , but due to the overall risks i think if it is done then one should be very carefull.to be honest i do a little bit my self in my chevy ( 5 speed) like going down big hills with the clutch in ...stuff like that .i really hate it when people run up on me doing the speed limit or better and i try not to do it to others.

Yes I have, which is why I stay about 3 seconds back.. I have plenty of time to hit the breaks or move.

i've done that so many times to those retards, one of them put there car in the ditch because of it lol but they never do hit me

Must be nice to live in a state where trucks drive slow enough you can even consider drafting them to save gas.

You can use a standard rule of thumb for any speed, and that's two seconds. As in: note a road stripe or other easy point of reference as the vehicle in front of you passes it; then count one-thousand-one, one-thousand two. At the end of one-thousand-two you should just be passing the same point. Add another second or more for rainy conditions, etc.

You can get away with drafting for awhile, but if you do it long enough you're gonna get bit sooner or later. If you're drafting a big rig a second or less ahead of you there is no way in hell that you'll have time to react to a blowout or see road debris in time to avoid it.

My hypermiling technique gets me a LOT of extra mpg's and it's a simple one. I pretend I have raw eggs under my accelerator and brake pedals. I find it interesting that some complain about drivers that follow too far behind

im usually 3 or more seconds behind when i do anything. you can still see the effects on the antenna of the draft, and there's no way in hell id get any closer than that lol.
