I was thinking to myself "How Long can I really do this for before I discharge my battery so much that I cant start my car?". I have dischaged the battery a Chevy Tahoe at night just having the interior lights on and the radio on. I have also dischared my moms Subaru Outback just having the seat warmer on.

I have a very basic understanding about voltage and wattage. What confuses me is Amps.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I am sure there are some things I have not considered yet.

I do at some point want to install a Battery Backup System similar to the one Steven Harris has done. then I want have this problem.

When cops stop, they leave the car running.

You seem to have a problem that you've eluded to but haven't yet come to grips with or truly acknowledged. You are a battery drainer. You've drained more batteries than probably 5 members combined. You shouldn't be ashamed, I'm just glad you are able to talk about it.

Your first step in recovery now, is to let the car idle while you look at **** (I mean, do work) in the car.

Use the laptops battery while the engine isn't running. Then use the inverter to charge the laptop while you drive.

Buy a jumper box and an AGM and don't worry about it. I run a fridge all night off my battery. Can still crank the truck in the morning

Pardon my ignorance, but in this context what is an AGM?

Most of the better brands have an alarm or lock out feature.

When source voltage goes below 11.5 volts they either turn themselves off and won't come back on till reset or make a loud beeping noise.

The larger the A\C current draw the larger the DC current draw and the less stored energy you have left to start the car.

Volts X Watts = AMPS (Ohm's Law)

Mine is a 400 Watt model by APC.

I use it while err "Working" on the laptop in my truck....
