A couple of weeks ago, i pulled into my driveway at night, and turned off my car and turned off my lights, and realized, my lights weren't turnign off. The light switch was off, but they were still on but the car was acting like the lights were off (no beeping warnign noises). But if i turn the switch on it acts liek they are on and tells me to turn them off. This freaked me out, cuz i thought the switch was borken, and that i would need to pull the battery to turn off my lights, but after a couple of minutes they turned off. This is how it is now. During the day they do not turn on, unless i use the switch, but it seems that a light sensor has kicked in or somtheing and automatically turns on my lights when its dark, and does not let me control them.

Can anyone help me get it back so my lgiths only turn on wen the switch is turned to the on position?

This may sound silly but have you tried your owner's manual?

Now that's funny.

Your truck has automatic lighting available when it gets dark. There are two sensors that "advise" the truck it is dark and automatically turn on the lights. Another safety feature is the "stay on" timer that lets the truck light your way for a short period.

Time to pull out the manual and check out the other features of your X.

blckmounty, look on your mirror and see if you have a slider bar. That is the adjuster for the light delay. Slide it to the right for longer delays of turning them off and to the left to turn that feature off. If it is all the way to the left, your lights will only work with the headlight switch. Some like them to stay on a few minutes after they get out so they can have light to there front doors at night.
Hope that helps.

There is also a way to adjust the sensitivity too.

btw I LOVE the auto on lights.
Probabaly my favorite feature.

thank you BBQ hot dog. That did the trick, and yes, i had checked my manual, and it doesn't mention it anywhere. I even tried looking up autolamp (that is whats said in small letters next to the switch) and that is no where to be found. I hate the autolamps cuz sometimes i dont want to be seen, or late at ngiht, pull into parking ltos or driveways and the lights shine into people's houses, but now i can control it.

I used to leave my autolights set on with a minute delay. But I know park in the front yard and the lights aim right into our basment windows. So I don't use it to often anymore.

That's weird, because my '00 Sport model, has a section in my owners manual, dealing with the Autolamp feature. Funny that Mercury does not.....
