so i just got a used 1998 X bauer 4.0L w/118,000 miles and they kept very good care of it....... but anyways so i checked the oil today just for kicks well they got the oil changed over 3 months ago which it has only gone a little over a 1000 since then but still. well so when i checked it, it looked like it just got done i mean exactly i have done oil changes like that and they were allready black.
so i thought that was pretty cool. well at least i think thats impressive which from what i heard if it turns dark quick it has to do w/sludge.

I know somebody which said that his engine always had clean oil, and he never had to add anything. This is when he first bought it, and didn't know the vehicle's history prior to the purchase. He heard some funny sounds after a short time. The engine was getting harder to start everyday. Eventually the engine seized up. It turned out that the dummy light for the oil pressure didn't work, and there was no oil pressure. It had a defective oil pump. I would suggest that you do an oil pressure check. Unscrew the sensor, and connect an oil pressure test gauge.

well i have a whole stack of what has ever done to the X even every time the filled it up with gas. which wouldn't the oil pressure gauge show that its bad? but yes i will check that..... thanks.....

In this person's case, he kept going back to the dealer, and the dealer never did an oil pressure test. They kept telling him that the engine has low mileage, and there is a "break in period". He had a list of receipts showing how many times he had to go to the dealer for the same problem. The engine seized right after the warranty on the car was over. He went to court, and lost. This was many years before there was the lemon law. It's possible the judge might had been bribed from the dealership before the case. :thumbdwn:
