Tore it down. Replaced vb gaskets, servo orings, servo gasket, removed the big spring, removed the wire clip. Torqured everything with the inch pound wrench. Filled it up. Idled truck in reverse for 5min and it never kicked in.

Im at a loss now

And i cant get it to read.proper level on dipstick. I can fill, run gears, let it sit for 5min, check, then its fine. Then i let it idle a little more and levels.gone.
Pan is 3qt, filter and removing vb lost me another quart. It prob dripped out a fifth quart over the last week of sitting with the pan off. Ive already put five quarts in. Forward gears run perfect. Just still no reverse!

Yes from what he told me trans worked fine when he pulled it. He just swapped to 5 speed.

I called transgo. We talked and i realized the kickdown and reverse spool was wrong. The kickdown was fine, but the reverse spools keeper pin was installed with the pin showing through the bore, not in the slot on the piston, with the piston showing fully in the bore.
I fixed thatand got it back together. But i was hungry and got cleaned up. So ill fill it up tomorrow and test it out.
Hopefully that was it!

It might have a problem in the valve body since it worked before the shift kit was installed. You could send it out to a place like Central Valve Bodies to see if the valve body was rebuilt correctly. Another option is to get an air test plate to check the transmission with compressed air with the valve body removed.

FIXED!!!

after talking to larry at transgo. We went over a few things. Cleaned reverse valve, 1-2 shift valve, 2-3 shuft valve. All control reverse.
Then i told him i had slack in the band before i felt it get springy. He told me to put a .070(i think), or something close to it between the servo and cover. Only washer i had that was big enough was .090.
He said this pushes the servo closer to the band. That ended up being.my fix. I also replaced the filter again this last time.

Short story, reverse bands ARE adjustable!! Not as easy as the others, but doable.

Thanks for the update! I'm going to mark this thread solved in green letters. I know that there are different servos with various length shafts, and they even sell an extendo shaft for a worn servo which you could grind down to the correct length. This is the first time that I've heard of anybody suggest using a washer between the servo, and the plate to adjust the servo apply tip. Thanks for the tip (pun intended). :D
