i did the brown wire mod...

I dont understand the no burnout cause its hard on the transfer case comment. Can you please explain to me, my thoughts are when I am in 4x4 auto and am cruising on the highway at 70MPH the transfer case would be doing the same thing it is doing during a burnout.
I am not looking to do burnouts and I dont have the mod in place on my truck, rather I am trying to understand the mechanics a little better.
Thanks,

Thanks,
When you're on the highway doing 70 mph, both driveshafts are spinning at the same RPM so its the complete opposite of a "burnout" where you have one driveshaft thats spinning at 3000 RPM and the other at 0 RPM. Dont forget that the front driveshaft is always spinning as long as the vehicle is moving. It is the high RPM driveshaft speed difference that will eventually kill the transfer case.

Will spinning the tires in snow in 4WD high burn out the transfer case as well? I have noticed a burning smell lately. Also, one in a while when I am turning, there is a creaking noise. I am at 60,000 miles, should I be changing the transfer case oil and differential oil?

No, as stated above when you do a burnout the rear shaft is turning and the front isn't, so you will burn out the clutches in the transfer case. If you do a burn out in 4WD both driveshafts are still turning. The creaking is most likely a bad CV joint.

Ditto... Check your transmission fluid as putting that kind of strain on the trans can cause it to heat up. I suspect that's the smell you were smelling.

sorry to highjack, but im wondering what the brown wire mod is..

what does it do? ive got the control trac 4x4 so it has 4 auto

what does the mod change exactly and how do you do it?

how can it... you still have to spin the drive shafts and front Dif. this mod is worthless

As I said in the write-up: As a fuel saving modification, it does nothing. As a mod to satisfy the needs of control freaks like me, it's perfect. I'll decide for myself when the 4wd should engage, thank you very much.
