just in time to cause i need another motor to rebuild. i might just fix it and sell it and buy a lift with the cash but i dono. it runs rough but i think thats because it has old gas. all i did was put a battery in it and it started up after a year of sitting. i need to put the passenger window in and clean it up(its actually pretty clean too!). but i do have a few questions.

the guy bought it and signed the title but never put it in his name, but he wrote me a bill of sale to go with it. and i tried to do car fax and on the title under the vin it says 4ECU.......... but when i carfaxed it it says it was 4FCU......... do you guys think that would be a problem when trying to register it?

thanks any answer is apriciated:thumbsup:

Carfax uses information provided by insurance companies, so it's entirely possible that the VIN was misread at some point. As long as the VIN on the title and the VIN on the vehicle itself match up, there shouldn't be a problem.

You might have a bit of a hassle in regards to the previous owner not ever titling it, but it depends on how picky your local DMV office is.

so the vin on the car is 4F not 4E like the title says, but the title says the licence plates are the same.... im clueless maybe somebody accidently pressed e instead of f because they are really close to eachother on the keyboard. think this may be a problem?

The vehicle VIN & Carfax have 4FCU but the title says 4ECU, correct?

Does the rest of the VIN on the title match up with the VIN on the vehicle?

I guess I misread your first post. Anyway, you could very well have a problem trying to get a new title for it. The guy that gave it to you never titled it, he gave it to you for free, and the title & vehicle VIN's don't match....something sounds kinda fishy, but it could be totally legit and someone at the DMV made a simple typo.

Couldn't hurt to take the bill of sale, the vehicle, and the old title to the DMV and explain it to them.

ya it does sound a little odd. i think he had a problem trying to get it in his name so he gave up and gave it to me. but yes everything in the title matches besides the e and f
