Hey guys,

I am getting super sick of the doggish performance of my 3.27 piece of crap rear end ratio, so I have decided that the next thing I do to the X is change ratios. I want to run 31's and be able to tow a nice big (5000 lbs +) trailer. I have the 5 spd which will be getting a centerforce dual friction clutch as soon as my current clutch dies. (hopefully soon :) ) I was wandering what you guys thought would be a good ratio. I was thinking that 4.10 would be just about right, or would 3.73 provide all the performance with better milage?

Thanks,
Eddie

Thats weird...i have the same setup and I dont' have a problem at all...except maybe trying to pass on the highway. 4.10's would be best that way if you wanted to go with larger tires later on you would still be good up to like a 33". The 3.73's would just be a waste of money in my opinion. I'm planning on running 4.56's or 5.13's when I move up to 35"s....

Good luck
cp

In about 2 weeks i might have a 8.8 with 3.73's and a LS for sale if u want it.

could i be intrested

3.27 *do* suck. But imagine how bad it would be with 3.08's. Some Ex owners have that ratio.

I'd go with 4.10, since you said you want to run 31's. If you plan to go to 33" tires later, though, I would go to 4.56 right now and save the money in the long run.

Ahh........quit your whining!! :p I have the 3.27 and have been running 33's for a couple months now. Sure, Geo Metros can beat me in a drag race but I can run over the top of them if I catch them. :hammer: I going up to 4.10's soon but I didn't really mind the 3.27 with stock tires. I pull an ATV trailer all over the place with it.

Yeah mine will drag around an ATV trailer like its a feather, but the time I loaded my friend's broken down jeep cherokee on a trailer and towed that (this is what Xs are for!!! :D ), I was lucky if I could make 55 up a hill. The X doesn't do well with heavier boats, campers, or cargo trailers either. I can feel that the engine is making very adequate HP and all the torque I could ever need, but it just doesn't have the gearing to use that HP and torque.

I had 3.27's. I now run 4.10's. Definate must!

Why are you selling the whole 8.8? Having trouble finding a locker or what?

Well, whoever wants it shoot me a pm.

Premier- Well, my rear end has 4.56's and a powertrax. Im trading my rear end to a friend for his with the 3.73's and a LS and $200. Im doing this because im doing a SAS and im going to run full width 44 and 9". I do not need this rear end from my friend so here I am selling it. My friends going to put it up on a jeep board in a week or two, so i thought id try selling it on here first.

Ok. Dang man, your rig is progressing pretty fast.. I remember when you first threw on the 35's. Did you win the lotto or what? haha

Did you ever get the shift linkage for the bw 1354?

I have the 35's for about a year almost. Yeah im progressing pretty fast because im getting sick of our front end. For the SAS i bought the frame with axles and everything for $400 and a friend is helping me do the swap for only $200 labor. With both of us working we are going to try to get the axles up in a weekend. Emphasis on try :D . Hope to be done with everything in a couple weeks. Were starting this sun.I wish i won the lotto!! Im working a full-time job this summer making the $$$ and im selling the whole front end and rear to my friend some im getting some money from that. Im talking with a guy on the board on getting the linkage, he says he will sell it to me but he hasnt been online lately.

Wow. I wish I didnt dump a bunch of cash into a Superlift and lockers... Now my SAS will have to wait a year or two. Not to mention I need a new t-case still. :banghead:

Where are you researching how to do the SAS? Are you just reading the writeups on here?

Yeah I hear you!

I have read a few of the articles on here and i am learning alot from my friend who is helping me do it also. I am a hands on learner. Doing this is a big learning experience.

Thats cool. There is a trainer at my gym who does fabrication. He is currently SAS'ing his GMC Yukon. Maybe I can get him to do mine for 200$ labor? :p

Good luck man!

That would be cool, im suprised my friend wanted to help me for $200, i was going to offer him more. Hes not really doing it for me, im just using his tools and garage and he's helping me. Im going to start a SAS post here in a little while. Thanks,

Matt

Sorry for hijacking your post yosh18981898, now back to you! Pm me if your interested in the 8.8 .

Matt,

You have me interested.. do you know how to weld already? Where did you learn? I was thinking of taking a class at the community college here. What about the other fabrication.. have you done this type of work before? Or is this the first time?
I dont imagine it would be too difficult, just have to get hands on.

I myself do not know how to weld YET. I am going to take some classes when i go to college in a few months. Im going to TennTech and taking AN automotive program majoring in Ford(2 years). THe reason im having my friend helping me with this is because he knows how to weld and has a crapload of tools. Its really not going to be that difficult i think, but u have to have all the right tools, all the parts your using and some fabrication knowledge, ohhh and dont forget time!! and a place to do it!! Me having a DD helps out a little too.

I would take you up on that axle, but since I'd still have to regear the front axle, I wouldn't be saving that much and I'd rather have 4.10s. So thanks anyways.
