i have my 98 mountaineer and just found out it has a lien on the title, i cant get ahold of the guy i bought it from and and the lien holder is just some guy and i cant find him anywhere.

i was wanting to know what would this engine swap into with out to much trouble?

my truck runs and drives good but i think the t-case is about to go.

v8 explorers are to hard to find, what about v6 ?
and what about v6 mustangs they are plentiful around here and cheep.

or should i just sell if for as much as possible and move on?

thanks for any help.

i might be interested in it if the price is right, what kind of truck do you have because i have a t case and trans from a 95 f150 if yours is going out

Did you just recently buy it? Is the lein from a mechanic or something? If you dont have any other options, I might be interested in buying it for the drivetrane if the price is right, and Im in St Charles...

How did you buy it with a lean on the title? Just curious. Sounds more like you got scammed.

this.

if there is a lein on the title, it cannot be legally sold to a 3rd person without the lienholder being involved.

If I were you, I would get the title situation squared away before you do anything.

If the title is not in your name, it could technically be reported stolen by the lienholder.

sorry i forgot all about this thread,

thats the thing, the title doesn't have the lienholder info part filled out so i cant find out who has the lien. the only info i have it the owners name and the name of the guy who got the lien , and i cant find any of them.

How do you know there is a lien on it then?

If the info isn't filled in then sounds to me there is no lien on it.

I know here in NY you can still register and title a car with a previous lien on it, the lien just shows up on the title that is in your name, and the title will say liens recorded and show that info on the front of the title.

Is it legal? Dunno and you also run the risk of losing it or having to pay off a lien you did not create. Hardly seems worth the hassle or risk.

I got lucky on a Mustang I purchased that the kid couldn't find his lien release for, just went to the lien holding bank and they cut me a lien release on the spot no questions asked.

Not sure if any of this will help you in your state.

well, if you have the title, and it has no lienholder info on it, then chances are there is no lien.

want to verify? try the DMV. They may have that info in their system.

Do this. In CA you can do a 'lien sale', I had to do one when I registered a motorcycle that had no paperwork and had been off the books for 10 years. I was able to get the title via this method. Your state may have something similar.
