i recently had a new engine on a 98 explorer, ive been using it a week or so and came to use it turned the key and nothing dead as a door nail, it was like when you turn the key without using the imoobiliser, the lights came on but no turnover.
i had a guy look at it and hes put a wire onto the battery which i think is telling the car its in park it will then start then i remove the wire and the car drives as normal, the problem is when i turnn car off i have to pop bonnet and start again, does anyone have any ideas what it is
thanks
jim

The wire is running off the battery I think to the transmission or a black box thing, sorry I'm useless with cars, the car I think thinks it's in drive when I turn the key to start but it's in park, the wire is over running the system telling it's in park so it starts then, but it's a nuisance doing it
Cheers jim

Have you tried putting it in neutral to crank it. There is a black box on the side of the tranny that the selector lever pivot runs thro. this could be out of whack or bad connection. It may not sense being in park but you could be lucky enough for it to sense neutral.
