OK, my 94 XLt has an odd idle problem.

After the engine has warmed up, the engine likes to boucne up and down slowly as I am stopped. It is not a large increase of RPM's at idle (it goes from approx. 700 to 925).

There is also this loud clicking noise that happens with the high idle. I hear the click and then almost immeadiately the idle goes up. This is all while I am at a stop or coming very close to stopping.

I am pretty sure the clicking noise has something to do with the idle problem because the clicking and the increase of idle hapen almost always together. If it helps, the click sounds like the A/C compressor engaging.

Any ideas??? It is making me a bit nuts.

Yea im pretty sure its your AC compressor. My X does teh same thing. Its just the AC turning on and compressing with uses some of your RPM. The compressor uses the RPM for power. So i Believe.

But I don't have the A/C on...it's about 20 degrees here.

Could there be a chance that the A/c compressor is turning on and off even though I don't have te A?C on??

Defrost on?

Robb

edit: having the defrost on cycles the a/c compressor. the dx coil acts as a dehumidifier

I dont think you have a problem, I think it is normal for that. But thats what i think, anybody else have a opinion?

i remember a while ago mom's vortec v8 suburban had a bad a/c clutch and it would click in and out no matter what at interavals. why dont you open your hood and watch your a/c clutch and see if that is what it is.

If your AC is clicking in and out every few seconds and your idle goes up and down with the clicks the problem is low freon. Recharge your freon and you should be good.

either recharge your freon or just disconnect the a/c compressor all together<-thats what i did
