Here's my story. I bought a amp bypass because, 1, my rear driver side speaker was a lot quieter than the others and I was contributing it to the amp. 2, I wanted better sound quality. So tonight I was bored so I decided to put it in. Not that big of a deal to do. Except I ripped my headlinder:frustrate. After I got it all done I turned on the stereo and it sounded better, but the rear d-side speaker is now completely mute instead of just quiet. Why would this be? If it is faulty wiring, then wouldn't it not work with the ammp plugged in as well? I need some help because this has been bugging me for months and no it is even worse. Thanks, Kyle.

Maybe that speaker is almost dead and the added power from the amp prolonged it's death throes. Dunno, it's an idea.

the wire from the h/u to the speaker may be damaged.

im not sure how factory amps are wired.......but if there is wire from the hu to the amp, then to the speaker....and there is wire from the hu to the speaker...that wire may be the one that is damaged

this may be way off because i have no frieken clue how the stock amp is wired..........but if it is wired how i think...then i have a good idea.......i think:confused:

Alec - I put in Pioneer 3-ways last September so that rules out the bad speaker.

But wouldn't it not work when it was plugged into the amp also? It doesn't make sense.

the wire could be fine from the hu to the amp...and from the amp to the speaker....but what might be damaged is the direct wire from the hu to the speaker

is that how it is wired or am i confusing myself again??

There is no wire from the HU to the speaker directly. As much as I wish there was, there isn't.

what exactly does an amp bypass kit do????

i know it bypasses the amp...but how?? does it just allow the signal to run through it without being amplifgied or what??

On factory amps there are two plugs. One in and one out. A bypass is a small harness that you plug each end into so nothing is plugged into the amp.

I going to bump this up so others can see it. I still have no idea why this is happening and it is really annoying me.

um, well i had an answer but then i clicked back and read that it was the rear driver side speaker not working, so that blew my theory out of the water.

Thanks for at least trying. I still need some help! Lee? Anyone? Anyone?

Bypassing the factory amp can be a huge problem, or so I found out. I had my audio stuff professionally installed, and the guys there had a tremedous time trying to bypass the thing. They ended up just taking the amp out altogether. Just something to think about...

I can understand that if you are hardwiring the wires together instead of using a harness. If I had the time I would just rewire the entire system, and I don't want to pay anyone to do it for me, so I need a quick temporary fix.

did you check the speaker itself. try switching the right and left rear speakers.

Yeah I tried that when I first noticed them problem back in the summer. But then the speaker was just quiet, not totally mute.

well if it's not the left rear channel output of the headunit that went bad, there is a break in the wire somewhere from the headunit to the speaker. the only solution would be to rewire it. but if the left rear channel of the headunit went bad, then that still wont help and you'll need a new headunit. hopefully it's just the wire.

My HU is pretty new. It's a Pioneer DEH-7200. Thanks for the help, but why would this happen only because I put in the bypass? It just doesn't make any sense!

sometimes when you hook up an aftermarket headunit to a factory system with an amp, it will do damage to the headunit. other times it may do damage to the amp. sometimes nothing gets damaged.

maybe the rear left channel was going bad, and it finally died. if the speaker works, then the only cause is the signal not getting to the speaker. either the problem is with the headunit or with the wiring. that is the only way the signal is not getting to the speaker.

you can test it by connecting the speaker directly to the headunit's left rear channel. connect it to the wires coming out of the back of the HU. if the speaker works, then the problem is in the wiring in the vehicle. if it doesnt work, then the headunit is the problem.

In case you were loosing sleep trying to answer my question:D , I solved it today. I pulled the HU out today and saw that one of the plugs (positive for the left rear, hmmm) was not plugged all the way into the socket that goes to the amp. So I plugged it in and everything worked! But then I put a little dab of dielectric on the plugs and that helped make them stay in batter. Thanks for everyones help. I appreciate it.
