i've been saying for a while that my truck was done and i was just putting the finishing touches on and all that, but i changed my mine.
what are my options for supercharging my 96 5.0. it has an e-cam, and pretty solid air flow upgrades already in place cold air inake through 3-inch exhaust. also i''ve heard conflicting things about the amount of power the different ford injectors will support. please let me know which ones i will need and figure them into the cost as well. currently i believe i am toward the high end of the stock 19lb ones. i don't have all the money in the world, nor do i yet perceive a need to have more than say 320-350 hp (280 at the wheels would make me the happiest man alive) also i will be using the truck for towing quite often (not that i don't already have plenty of torque for that so don't tell me to get a low end power producing charger- i just want to fly at the high end) so scratch the towing part. what blower can i fit on my 96 that will be the most bang for the buck??? oh yeah, it might also help to let you know that this will be strictly a street application. if it ever sees the track i'll be surprised. i have a feeling many of you were just waiting for me to ask this so don't laugh at me for trying to deny that i've wanted one since day one or for trying to say that my truck was finished- i know, they're never finished.

thanks for the responses drew

also check out superchargersonline.com they have the Powerdyne 6lb. for like $2900. you can also get the 8lb. pulley for like $75 on that site. i think thats what im gonna do. i would even consider the 10lb. pulley, but with no intercooler thats just too much on pump gas. on the injectors, just go ahead and go big. you are right, with what youve done the 19lbs arent gonna be enough with a charger. 24 would be cuttin' it real close. just go with 30lb.+. and get a recalibrated mass air for the charger and bigger injectors. and like a T-rex pump. to save some dough check e-bay or the local 'stang guys for some injectors. you put 8lb. powerdyne on that thing with the cam you got and the other stuff its gonna be NASTY!:D

Go with the tried and true method of 36 # injectors with 10 pounds of boost on pump gas. I think that an e-cam and a good exhaust are also a important part of a good setup. You will also need some other supporting goodies like headers, MSD, plugs, pro-m, chip, fuel pump and you should be running pretty good like that. You will also need a shift kit as well other wise it is good by Trans.

Go to OEM Ford parts and get the charger kit for the 96 for $2500 then go the superchargersonline and get the 10 psi pulley. With the injectors, headers and MSD it will still cost you about the same as the powerdyne kit alone and you'll have the same power for less money.

blk mk8, you can run 10lbs. on 93 octane with no intercooler? ive heard that the combustion temps get too high and make it detonate. if youve done it let us know. i would rather go ahead and go 10lbs. if i can.

we ran 10 pounds of boost for a long time and never had a problem. you just have to have the right tune other wise it does not matter how much boost you have it will ping.

alright, thanks for a the replies. i have a few more questions. first off i want to make sure that the charger will fit on the 96 easily before i buy it, some of them are listed only for the 97 and up. second- i don't want anything that will be hard to set up/finicky computer wise. so i don't know if ten lbs will work or not, THE EASE OF INSTALL AND DRIVEABILITY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR. also i need an idea of the final cost of everything injectors, charger, install kit?, extras, new mass, computer tuning etc.

thanks again

im at 11lbs of boost right now NON intercooled! and its running great. I also upgraded my fuel system....

42lb injectors, aeromotive fuel rails, aeromotive adj reg, t-rex inline, and 190 in take

thats good to hear pur pony. how does the cam uhh interface with the blower. lol. when i did the cam swap i never intended to keep going this far, but i know you have the 303 so your the one to ask how its responded to the blower? also did you ever run it with any other injectors or have you had the 42s the whole time. i don't think i will be running quite as much boost as you are ever so i hope i can get away with 36s. anyways, thanks for stopping in and responding. i'm still in the planning stages here but keep checking out the progress 'cause you will be a big help to me. thanks -drew

The E-303 cam is great with the blower.... its a good street blower cam and a good auto tranny cam as well. Its nothing wild but helps some. I acturally have the crane cam but its the same as the E-303.. its like a 4330 or something... I dont remeber off the top of my head.

my biggest problem is getting air into the blower. The pipe that is comes with is pretty restricted. I am going to be building a custom pipe to relocate my air filter and mass meter into the fender... I should get about 3 more pounds of boost.... its only pulling around 8lbs now with the 11lb pulley

I had 24lbs injectors and an fmu with 10 psi of boost on a Powerdyne. It made 300 rw hp and 380 tq. It went a 14.45 @ 96 with that setup. The E-cam sucked. It sounded stock on my truck. I could barly hear it. It would only pull to 4800 before it gave up. Go with an eldelbrock, elgine, wolveren, or holly cam. FMS cams are too small. Something with lots of duration and a medium lift. Superchips should still have the program in their computer for the setup I ran. It was the best program they ever made for me. Pur pony I only got 1 more pound by doing what you want to do with the air filter. 3 pounds is alot. Stock rails are good to 500 hp because they are truck rails and are larger than mustang rails. Stock lines are too as long as you have a t-rex, Kirban adjustible fuel regulator, and 255 intank pump. That was good to around 480 hp. Never underestimate the stock explorer parts. I would port the stock intake, get aluminum edelbrock heads, large wolverine cam, 77mm Pro-M mass air meter, 36psi injectors and powerdyne superchager. That combo should be good for 350 rw hp. Any other questions just ask.
