Alright, a 2004 sport trac 4x4 loaded with moonroof, leather, heated seats, hard tonneau cover, and 4.10 gears (open, easier to put a locker in it) with 25,000 miles on it. Power everything including compass and outside temp. Literally pristine, it looks like brand new. I got the guy down to $19,995 from $21,700.

What do you think? This is to replace my 1993 Ranger short-bed, with 5 inch lift and big bfg tires that hauls everything but the family.

Sounds like you're in the right price range.

That's what I did, it was a good move for me. I love the Trac. If you like to build them up though, the Superlift kit for about $2000 is the only game in town, or a body lift.
Sport Tracs come with only a t-case skidplate but you can get a fuel tank plate from Ford Accessories for about $250 (I did). With TT/shackles, better tires, and OE limited-slip it does well off-road as long as you allow for the long wheelbase. Main downside on Sport Tracs is that the factory shocks are very soft. Not just for off-roading, they're too soft for the street. I bent the torsion bar crossmember going over a railroad crossing slowly  the first week I had it. Later I got sideways and airborne at 75 mph when I hit a pavement ripple on I-90, so I got new shocks pretty quick after that. The favorites on the Sport Trac board are Monroe SensaTracs or Reflexes. So I'd say get new shocks right away.

is it a red one like u wanted?

Well, we bought it! It's blue with 4.10 gears open diff, leather, outside temp/compass, moonroof and everything! This morning we drove 1 1/2 hours to get to the dealer - wow what a long drive. Tried to get them to come down to 19,500 and they wouldn't. I said 19,900 and they have a deal and they wouldn't budge. So we walked and they stopped us and did the 19,900 price.
I'm loving it - the best is that while it has the lower gears it doesn't have the tow hitch, which means they didn't even tow with it and I can put my own on. No sign at all of the 2-3 flare people talk of. Just solid and smooth. If I do anything it will be putting new shocks on it. Oh yeah, the heat doesn't work on the passenger side seat, but that's under warrenty with ford.
