ya so.

Every car has it problems.

I think it is the soccer moms drive v6 explorers and have nothing better to do then complain on that autobeef site.

I admit they have their problems AND I have had mine.
I have a 04 V8.

You can ask one guy and he drove his 300k miles and just changed some normal stuff, while another guy cant keep it out of the shop for a month. You get that with any make.

This site is the best place to be when it comes to explorer info.

Good luck

so wait out of 300,000+ cars sold they have 332 complaints or what 1000 total. yeh these cars gotta be junk i mean 1000 complaints out of 300,000+ sold.

People do not go to those sites (or hear) to say how great their cars are.

Yes, some have had problems with Explorers (and every car ever built).

Your results may vary, but I'm keeping my '02 fully loaded Limited, now at 109K miles. Not without some repairs, but nothing fatal either so far. This is about car #30 I've owned and the only one I ever bought new and kept to >100K miles, so go figure.

Ye sorry for that comment :-) When I boght mine 2004 v8 limited I boght it with some failure that I knew about.Whis I see now that is pretty common. 6cd error (fixed) pinion seal (fixed) rear axle seal (not fixed small leak) transmission somtimes hard shifting to reverse (not fixed) but has started to view solenoid pack on ebay. Do anyone have any experience with this seller or remanufactured solnoid pack http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/5R55...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

I agree that this is a great site :-)

I've got an '02 EB loaded 4.6L Explorer bought new for $34K and never abused. I fortunately bought a 100K extended warranty through the dealer. It's had a huge amount of problems that fortunately were covered under the extended warranty. Since it's expired more major problems have cropped up like tranny issues and 4WD issues involving the transfer case clutches, electrical issues involving the bells and whistles like auto headlamps, power seats, power door locks, key fob not working & etc. It's now sitting in my driveway with cracked heads, bad head gaskets and has always sounded like a diesel at idle and anytime power is applied, uses a quart of oil every 500 miles and the A/C has a leak that can't be found. In other words it's toast at 184K with about $6K worth of work needed. If everything worked properly after the neccessary repairs, it's worth about $2K at best on a trade. Irregardless of what brand I buy in the future, I'll never own another 4WD vehicle due to the problems experienced with this vehicle and the fact that we rarely ever get weather that would require it. 4WD only means more and expensive problems if you keep it long enough. Regarding the statistics mentioned by waskley, I've talked to several owners of this vehicle in my area and it appears I've gotten off lightly compared to some that had huge problems before 50K like trannys, rear ends, transfer case clutches, rear wheel bearings, a/c compressors, computers, fuel injection issues & etc.

I've also got a 2000 Toyota 4Runner Limited 3.4L, with all the bells and whistles and at 201K, it runs perfectly, doesn't ever require oil between changes, everything works as new and is always dependable and it has a superior 4WD system. It's off-road ready from the factory without modifications and I don't mean just pasture fields. Many of these have already went over 300K before engine or tranny rebuilds and these weren't soccer moms. It's currently worth between $6K-$8K or more on a trade at any dealership in this area and some dealers have offered to buy it outright due to the model's rock-solid reputation. The only thing it's required outside of normal maintenance such as the timing belt replacement has been the starter solenoid contacts being replaced. Not the starter, just the starter solenoid contacts for $60 installed. Tell me which brand I'll be more prone to purchase in the future.

Is the answer Toyota?

but talk to the next guy with a toyota 4 runner and he probably wants to drive it off a cliff.

Suck to hear about your explorer issues. Good luck.

When I was a member on the Malibu Forums same stuff : My motor blew, my tranny slips....

Taurus Car Club of America: Overheats, headgasket, CD's stuck in dash

Toyota camryforums.com: help my motor siezed, waterpump pulley flew off

etc...etc...etc...

Cars plain and simple suck today, while they have the engineering to make them go for ever manufacturers use "planned obsolescence" The explorer sucks because ford engineered this to be a 100K mile truck (if that)..The flimsy plastic thrust washer in the 5r55e transmission is a testament to that.

I know a couple people with Explorers that are tanks and wont quit going strong, others that swore em off. Same thing with Tacos, some tacomas and 4rummers are golden and some are death traps

True, raja- If they built the entire car as well as they could, they'd build themselves out of business. I think people would be ok with it if cars were $10-15k. But at 40K+ lasting 100,000 miles is ridiculous. That's like buying a house that last 15 years and then you have to buy a new one. :D

Thats why I am officially coining the term "Sloppy Seconds" :D:confused::monkey::eek::hammer:

SS: Used car buyers that get an Explorer 2 years old, 2nd owner for a third the price hoping to get some good use but get 2-3 shift flare, no reverse, and fail safe mode.
