:exp: Hello,

I just recently bought my X, and am going to be doing some maintainece within the next month. I am changing oil, oil filter, air filter, and new breaks and rotors. I have a few questions regarding my X.

Well 1. what type of drop in air filter will be the best.
2. what type of oil filter should I buy
3. The sticker says to use Motorcraft oils, do I have to use the motorcraft brand?
4. when im an changing the breaks, is ther a specific kind of break fluid ford wants me to use?

Thanks You all! I have found alot of Info on Xplorers here. By far the best 4X4 community!!!:exp:

1. K&N filters are supposed to be one of the best, but not exactly drop in.....
2.You could get motorcraft for this, most brands are ok, just stay away from Fram. search on this board for a thread called "oil filter study".
3.No. that is just a price gouge. If you want the best, go synthetic. People on here swear by it, but it is not cheap.....
4.Regular brake fluid should be fine.

Alright thanks man!! I always use Valvoline Motor Oils in my vehicles. I have never used Synthetic Oils Before. Kinda shaky on the subject really.
About the air filter, I really dont wanna do any mods to the truck as of yet. Thats why I kinda want to keep the stock air box. It has a Fram air filter in it right now. Ill see if K&N carrys a stock filter for this. Thanks for the help!

K&N is a cartridge filter. I don't think it is that hard to adapt to the Ex. It does increase engine power. I don't even have one myself, but if everyone else wasn't sleeping right now, they would be convincing you instead.

I really do want to get rid of the FRAM. I might see if I can find a Motorcraft Filter. The bad thing none of the part stores here carry motorcraft parts!!!! I have to go to the Dealer for them.

Prepare to get ripped off at the dealer$$$$$ They are the worst for prices. A guy needed a 6 amp fuse a couple of weeks ago, and it was $17.00:eek: for ONE fuse!!!

I think i am going to order them off the net then!!!
There are plenty of places that sell Motorcraft Products online! I can never figure out why dealers are such moneyholics and never want to help out owners!!!!

From all I've seen and heard, WIX filters are the best. They can also be found sold under other names, Car Quest, NAPA Gold, etc. If you have a decent parts place they can tell you who makes their filters.

get the moble 1 filters they use synetic membrane to filter. They are step above all the others.

K+N do make a filter that drops in the original air box. I should know, I have one. I did notice an increase in throttle response after putting it in. It may not be as good as a cone filter, but you didn't want to modify yours as did I.

OK guys thanks alot!!! Ill be on here from now on!! This site is great!!!!
