hey, this is a noob on the loose

I have a 1998 Ex and I have not done any mods. All I do is wash it, wax it and treat it like the queen that she is. I want to know if anyone has put a xenarc or lilyput screen in the dashboard. I would like to keep my hu. I have no idea how to even begin to relocate anything. please, any ideas would help a mill.

I have done all the searchs but I have not came up with anyone who has described the process of relocation.

PS. you guys here are great. this is my first post and I have been using this site for months. All my answers are usually easy to find. keep up the good job..........................man I sound corny

several people have mounted tvs in place of the headunit or in their center console..... there are several writeups on it.... welcome to the site....

also not sure about your local laws... but here, it is illegal to have any screen other than navigation or a reverse camera to be seen by the driver

I have seen a couple of writeups. but the whole relaction part is the one that stumbles me. I would like to keep all my dashboard pieces (HU, AC controls, Control center) that is the hard part for me. how can I keep or "relocate" these things.

wow somebody replied, I feel like I am contributing...............man here I go with the corny crap again

PS. by the way jimabena74, congratulations on your child. I too have a daughter and she has literally changed my life

I just looked at your sig, Jim i knew you had a baby, never looked at the date...it's my sis's Bday ...19 instead of newborn though lol. AND NO no1 will be getting pictures :D

sorry for the hi-jack back to the TV issue

Hey Nycejokes,

What part of Brooklyn you are from i'm located near the prospect expressway....i have 1996 explorer which im looking to update and add some nice goodies. Like you, i take it to get it washed, waxed and armor alled for a night out on the town. i have some ideas to on getting a TV/monitor...which will play dvd/cd all in one unit.

yes....like suave6565 has said..they make units that replace ur cd or cassette player with built in monitors but these cost upwards of 1000....i have a 98 sport automatic(not sure how or if they differ from your model) but i am building an extension from my center console that will hold a dvd player, a 7.2" screen, and a TV tuner...the sound will be run into my AUX port on my Pioneer and the ciragette lighter is there for a 12V source

why use your cig lighter for a permanent 12v source, just tap into your fuse box with a wire.

send me an email at wattsupcustoms@hotmail.com

i don't have time to respond right now (and find the pertinent pictures), but i can definitely get you going in the right direction.

b/c i want it to be removable...if i run it to a fuse ill still have to put some kind of plug/disconnect to remove it...i had nearly $2000 worth of stuff stolen b/c i couldnt take it out easily...so they ripped it out...if they want it bad enough they'll get it or tear the crap out of everything else

suave and nyce im from BK also down by the belt parkway meets the bqe I havent done much but I've put neon around my dash(that dim with the dash lights) ran 14g wires for my speakers ,put in pioneer 6x8 4 ways and installed my HU so if you guys need any easy help like that just let me know also installed strobes and wig wag headlights , oh yeah and foglights.

thewishkah,

Thats not too far from me....maybe we can meet up and get some ideas from you....i had a 1992 xtl explorer not too long ago....i had to get rid of it to make room for the one i have now

iight just let me know whens good for u and Ill let you when I can do it.

wow! I can't beleive I was the one who started this post. (please excuse the sappy, tear jerked reaction). I just did not know the true power of the forum.
anyways, suave6565 and thewishkah I too live close. I live around Kings Plaza. (marine park to be exact) I think we should defintely bounce ideas from one another and getting together can be productive for all of us. We might be able to get a lot of ideas and save some $. I personally have many connections. my family owns an electronics store and this is where me and my peeps get all the goodies.
as a matter of fact I am going to start a thread to see if more people would like to meet up an check out each other's rides and like I said, bounce ideas. there are so many questions that can not be answered through writting. let me know what you think.

if you dont wnat to move anything or lose controls, get a headunit that has a fold out monitior

what you mean Jim. can you post a link with such headunit

jimabena74,

I did a little research on the control part....i found an adapter that will be able to connect to an after market radio and still have the stearing controls and rear controls.
(SWI-X) so for those who have 95 and above this may be somthing to look into.

Thewishkah,

This is the one im looking to put on my X ALL-IN-ONE

email me at:

P.s. Doesn't have to be a Brooklyn,NY thing.... at least from NY NJ Tri state area. makes a little easy to set up a place to hang and meet if we are close.
