I am trying to hook up my new cd player...Pioneer DEH-P6400. My problem is that I have to bypass the factory amp. Does anyone know how I do this? I have no clue what to do. Your help is greatly appreciated.

If you need it right now, go to your nearest car audio shop or Circuit City, Best Buy, ect and get the factory amp bypass harness for your year Explorer. I believe they cost about $20. If you can wait for it, www.crutchfield.com may have it for a better price.

Where do I hook this bypass up? I may have the harness. My previous cd player was professionally installed for like $50. Well that cd player was stolen and I found what looks like half of the wiring harness with a fuse box and some other device wired to the power. every other wire is capped off. Is this what I need?

Since you have a 96, your factory amp is located behind the passenger side rear cargo panel. If your previous CD player was professionally installed, they may have (should have if they were really professionals) bypassed the amp already. The only way to be sure is to take off the rear cargo panel and check to see that the amp is completely disconnected and bypassed.

do all of the 96 X's have stock amps? I dont have the JBL set up that I read about in some other threads.

Yep, my 95 had the lowest model factory stereo and it had a factory installed amp behind the cargo panel.

Got it working. Thanks alot for your help!

No problem.

What turned out to be the problem?

Just another faulty wiring harness...those things are so cheap. This HU rocks though. I love it and got more tham my moneys worth.....Since it was free. Thanks to those b@stards that robbed me.

harness

You'll have to buy a factory harness that has 2 diff harnesses.. it has the same setup as a ford probe.. let me guess everything works but you don't have any sound, right?

Scotty
Everything works now. I had a problem like what you said but I got it fixed. Thanks anyway.
