Got the good ol' stock 4.0 in the ex and went playing with my V-8 friends on some sand hills and the little 4.0 was all tapped out and couldnt make it, I'm running 33x12.50's, I know I should get gears but other than that what are the best (cheap) modifications I can do to get some more POWER out of the ex, Any suggestions
Thanks, EBexplorer

You were in 4-low and couldn't keep up??

I was going to start a new thread about this one but I will talk about it here, my 4 wheel HI works but my 4 wheel low wont, what's the deal with that? I still have the automatic system, I think the button for the low is broke, wonder where i can get one of those from.

To start with, the KKM intake kit, www.kustomz.com and a custom or aftermarket catback setup will help give you a little more power. But gears are definately worth it (depending on what you have) for driving 33s.

my 4-low is like that also, do a search there are many threads on it , I'm gonna take my shifter motor off the t-case this weekend and clean it , alot of guys here say this works so i'm gonna give it a shot .

4-lo

EBexplorer:
Are putting the X in neutral then turning the knob to 4-lo while at a complete stop and then pressing and releasing the break pedal right? That's what I have to do. Otherwise my 4-lo won't engage. I had to rebuild my transfer case about 40,000 miles ago because I wasn't doing this. Apparently some plate inside the case wore and wasn't pushing the gears properly....something like that.

I would think if you fix the problem with the low range you would have all the power you need. Plus you would alot less diffrent wear and tear on the engine and the trans.
