They're a direct replacement. Nothing else is needed. I have GT40-Ps on my '96. But why do you want to swap?

becaose they say gt-40ps are more powerful thats all

The P's just have a different spark plug angle and a heart shaped chamber. You'll have to get 98-01 exhaust manifolds to match up.

You'll see about a 5-10hp gain from at least 8 hours of work. Now if you plan on doing some serious porting thats another story.

GT-40P heads were used on 96-97 Explorers 98-01 had P's

Very little difference in heads.

What Matt said. You'll see next to no gains in swapping the heads. Not worth your time at all. But to keep this thread legit.. the exhaust manifolds are interchangable. I have P heads on my '96 exhaust with no problems.
