Ok whats up guys, i haven't been around in awhile. I have been on the jet ski message board a lot more.
Well heres the deal. I am finally getting rid of this piece of a volvo coming up pretty soon... I hate it. I really wish I never sold my old explorer, or flipped the next one I had.

I will have around $14k to spend, plus I will probably throw in some more... at the top $18k.

Anyways, I have been looking a lot. At first I wanted a Nissan Frontier Crew Cab supercharged, (w/o its really slow) but then I learned you have to have premium w/ the supercharger, plus it only gets like 19 mpg anyway, so what the hell why not get a v8 if you gonna do that.

I also am a big fan of the Toyota Tacoma double cab - but finding a 4x4 version in my price range is quite difficult.

So I like Tundras as well, but I think I want more room.
I started looking on Autotrader online, and actually found a lot of 2000+ Tahoes in my range... wow. with 60-70k miles.

Anyways, V8 is good.
edmunds.com gave it good reviews.

Thats my top pick now, if I can find one I can afford - but does anyone have any help??? what else should I look at, look for in a tahoe, etc. My dad has a 1999 suburban now (old platform) and hasn't had to much trouble from it (bought new) and now has 160k but he is on some "foreign cars are good" trip so the tahoe may take some convincing.

Glad to see you back around again:) have you looked at the trailblazers?

Get aTahoe.. My dad's got a 00 Tahoe and that thing will just about tow anything. We used it to tow a 32' Boston Whaler but now since we own a house with a dock in the Chesapeake Bay, we keep it there. Just make sure you get a tranny cooler and all the goodies. You should be able to find a nice Tahoe or even a Expedition. That's one truck thats in my near future as soon as I get my 96 Blazer drivable, I'll sell it off and buy a new Expedition.

Hey thanks - I have looked at the trailblazer... my x's mom had one, and I had to drive it all the way to the beach... it was a good ride, but I think if i'm going with mid size I'd want a truck...

I didn't realize the tahoe/yukon got such good ratings until the other day -- that is my top choice as of now.

Its getting closer! more ideas?!?!

Also, right now my main interests are:
Tundra
00+ Tahoe
02 and below 4runner highlander or sport edition
02 and below F-150 super/crew cab

Just asking, Whats wrong with an Explorer??

hey, whats the name of the jet ski thread????? and what kind of skis? thanks

i had a 2door Tahoe and for the short time it was stock it got about 14mpg in town and about 18mpg highway. FYI.

David, please read the posting guidelines at the top of this forum. I will paste them here for you:

Hey Everybody, just posting the division between what is appropriate to post in the All Other Makes and Models Forum, and what is appropriate to post in the Ford Industry News forum.

All Other Makes and Models: This forum is meant for discussion of any and all vehicles that are not the Ford Explorer. All vehicles from any other manufacturer, or news about upcoming models from Ford's competition should be discussed here. Discussion of other Ford vehicles that we already know and love is also appropriate.

Example "Chrysler Concorde", "Look at this cool F150!" both appropriate here.

Ford Industry News: This forum is for discussion of the Ford Motor Company and its position in the Automotive Industry as a whole. New and upcoming Ford or Ford owned models, sales figures, Ford press releases etc are all appropriate here.

Example "All new Mustang concept!" or "Ford issues sales figures for Q1 2003" both appropriate here.

Also, I'd like to ask that nobody disparage anyone else's vehicle choice. We all love Explorers, but this forum is for talking about vehicles that aren't Explorers. Posting "Why? Just get an Explorer..." is not appropriate. Discuss the topics, keep any disagreements from being personal, and follow the general posting guidelines of the forum

Thanks everyone, if anyone has any questions, just PM me!

Our community has evolved, and certain members do not have interest in the new Explorers and choose to look elsewhere. This forum is for them, and for people who just like to discuss other makes and models. Please, do not harass members about buying Fords or Explorers exclusively in my forum.

Well any other opinions? Yeah I drive my dad's 99 suburban a lot, old body style, and honestly, the milage is ok in that. And the way I drive the turbo in my volvo, its really not that great on gas either also because my cats are toast.

Anyone switch from a SUV to a truck? do you miss having more room in the cab? thats the only thing i'm worried about. I do like the tundra a lot.
I also like the 4 door f150

stephen man where are you, your usually good at helping other with car choices!

If you're afraid of missing the room then get something like a 4 door F150...

What would you suggest in the 14-17k range? Even though gas is on the rise, I'll be at school next year only about 45 minutes away (Clemson) so its not like I will have to make HUGE trips constantly.

go to texas... I've scored some great deals on trucks there. I see 97-99 tahoes and suburbans in the low teens. I bought one of my excursions from www.tveauto.com and Stan is a good guy to do business with. He turns his inventory fast so check back often.

yeah the crew cab F150 is a sharp rig,, but also how about a chevey, 2500, possibly w/ a deisel,,

ummmm.....My brothers "big hoe". I guess I should show you a pic. He seems to like that very much. Lots of room in the wheel wells, and the cab.
