Well, my X has 66K miles and I think that the chain tensioner is going, when the truck is at idle there is a distinct "dragging" noise of what I think is the chain. In my opinion is sounds like when metal is dragged against plastic, its just a distinct sound.
Is it really worth getting fixed or should I just go for a 4.6L V8?
Will the V8 bolt directly to my 5R55S, and am I correct in assuming the engine mounts are the same.
And how easy is the swap?

Comments or suggestions welcomed.

Thanks ahead of time,
Nate

go the V8 mate ive heard some horror stories regarding price of fixing the chain on the back of the motor. and if you have to pull it to fix it why not drop in the 4.6?

Yeah, you are most definately correct on that! I'd just need to get a working low mileage 4.6 V8 engine and hook it on up... And I've always wanted the power of a V8 motor.

has anyone done a 5.4 and tranny transplant?

i was just wondering if it was an option for you but like they said extra weight/height dramas probably not. is 2v or 4v heads better on 4.6?

3V is probably the best option. 292HP (217KW), now thats some power for an SUV.

jeez hope you find one, i'll get a V8 oneday.....(daydreamy look on my mug)

hm

mine is making a sound too. Sounds more like something has fallen loose. Not so much a slap, but like high pitched gravel hitting a metal roof.

I know I sure don't want to try to replace the rear cassette, and you gotta pull a LOT of stuff to get to the front set. Plus, if you get even a little out of sync, its' all toast.

Compared to my friends chevette so many years ago with the single rubber one we replaced in a liquor store parking lot....

I don't think its' as simple as just dropping a V8 in. The computer? Fuel lines? Everything on the 05 is throttle-by-wire the computer runs it.

Or, am I overthinking things?

Shawn

Well I'm going to see if ford will pay to replace. I sent them a long email with a lot of details...see what happens.

I'll post a video up of the noise

I don't think this is the sound I was looking for...but its a new sound that I have never heard before..

Sound of it is best at the first part of the video...
