On my 93 Eddie Bauer, the last week she won't start right away if left overnight or during the day. She has tons of electrical/battery power, you turn the key and she makes a loud *click/clunk* sound, like the starter just won't turn.

you can try her a couple of times with the same result, leave her for a few minutes and she'll catch and fire up.

i'm pretty sure this is covered by the extended warranty i have but i figure if someone here can give me some advice.

thanks,

leo

Well, just this week a couple of friends of mine were telling me about similar problems with their cars. If the starter is getting power from a good battery, and the starter solenoid is functioning, but you still aren't getting it to roll over, try using a hammer. Have someone turn the key to start and hold it there while you lie under the truck and tap the starter lightly with a hammer. If the starter comes to life and the truck starts right up, then go get the starter replaced. If it still doesn't do anything, then the problem lies elsewhere.

I was having trouble with my 94 also. I took it in and they checked the battery and amps and everything was fine.
I put in a new starter but it still has trouble starting after setting for a while. Someone told me it might be the battery cable going to the starter. I guess the starters on the Explorer pull a lot of juice. You might want to check into that.

Hey i have a similar problem with mine. I have changed the starter and the starter solenoid. we think it is something to do with the relays. For the last month and a half and probably for the next six months this is how i start my car.

1. turn the key to the on position
2 pop the hood
3 touch a wrench to both exposed bolts of the solenoid. (if you look to the left of your battery up against the body you will se a black circular thing with two bots and some wires. Make a connection using something metal.)
4 there will be sparks but i have yet to get shocked.

good luck
let me know if it works for you and the solution they tell you if you go to get it fixed.

Thanks for the speedy replies fellas!! :)

well its like this, temps have dropped to at least -25-30 and crawling under that truck now isn't really an option. By the time I get home from work its completely dark out which will make things even more difficult.

is the starter right on the bottom in the open? the reason i'm asking is because i recently had an automated car wash, and shes done this only since i had this done. i wouldn't think that the starter was actually froze because once i have her started she runs fine and will restart again soon after she was shut off.

but if i leave her overnight or all day, she won't start...until what i said earlier.

thanks guys,

leo
