Do I need a lift kit? Is it something I can do my self or should I take it to a shop? How expensive is it? Also, I'd like to put some 20in rims on as well. Any ideas?

Thanks

do a search for torsion twist

yea, torsion twist and lots of people have been putting on Warrior Shackels and AAL's too, i think the max you can go on the TT is 2" because you have 4wd (something about the angle of your cv joints i believe) and im not entirely sure how much lift the AALs and shackels add yet, i think its around 2.5" of lift, but it varies from exlporer to explorer

They have a write up on excatly how to do it, if i had more time, and wasnt lazy i would find it and link it for you. Its under the useful links or something. It looks as if any regular person could do the AAL and shackels, and if you know how to use a ratchet it looks like you can do the TT as well...hope that helped.

anyone feel free to correct me if im wrong on any of this...just what i picked up from reading around...

What are AAL's?

There just extra leafs that you add to a leaf pack, so if you had 4 leafs in a pack you could add more giving you 5 or 6 leafs in one pack ;)

I think I'd be better off just going to a body shop and bracing myself for a price shock. What should I expect?

Am i the only one that read hes lifting it AND putting Dubz?????? how can you off road with 20s?

You don't...it's for looks in his case. He could fit them at his stock height though i'm sure. Some rock crawlers are actually using 20" wheels...granted they are made alot different but the size is the same lol.

BTW. You seriously can do this yourself...the tt is a matter of turning a bolt, shackles (which might be desireable since they don't stiffen up your ride) are bolt on...very very simple. Take it to an offroad shop..they know what their doing if you don't feel comfortable doing this.

I'm not trying to 'off road'. I want to 'on-road' and I'm trying to find out how to get a little lift on my truck.

So if I put some 20's on this bad boy, that will give me a little height and I wouldn't need to lift it?

Oh....sorry man i see what you mean.....you want to lift it to fit the 20's under there better right?

Just curious, what 20's are you looking to get?

I think I'll do just that. I don't want to get in there a mess anything up! Thanks

I haven't decided which style yet. I do know I want something in chrome.

Here's a 2nd gen that's lowered and has 20"s...no need to lift at all. I'm not sure if they rub alittle at full lock but this can be fixed by alittle trimming...it'll only rub on the plastic parts inside the wheel well. This is hartman's ride here on ef, i think he has 20x10 inch wheels. The backspacing is what's important but I have no idea what the propper bs is sorry.

btw. I'm a guy that lifts trucks for offroad use...not really too versed in street trucks. There's tons of info on this site though, just do a search...from what iv'e found in my 10 minutes of searching you coudl even lower your truck and fit 20"s...just rub a little at full lock. But PLEASE don't take my word as gospel...i know very little about lowering and bigger wheels.

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about! I'd like to hook my truck up just like that! It seems as if I don't need to do any lifting.

Just to add the picture coral..

You can go pretty dam low on 20s, I'm near 5" in the front and 3" in the rear:

use excatly what i said...it depends on how much of a lift you want though, from what i hear that will yield you about 2" of lift MAX on a 4x4...
