Yeah I think the only reason you can fit that size pipe is because you don't have the underhood-fire insulation anymore.

Also have you thought about heat soak issues with the ABS plastic?

Actually i could fit it with the hood insulation, especially now that the edges have been grinded down. I took the insulation off since it was getting worn out and looked horrible.

Could you describe heat soak to a noob? lol
If its the amount of heat it can take, im more then sure that it can take the heat of the engine compartment, considering it takes the exhaust from furnaces and hot water tanks.

Heat soak is the tendency of ABS plastic or PVC to absorb heat from the engine, thereby heating up the intake air. Other materials (like carbon fiber type material) don't heat soak so much. ABS, and all those nice pretty iFab chrome intakes will though.

Generally you don't want your intake air to be hot (you want it cool for best power). In the case of our trucks though, I don't think losing 1 or 2 hp to hot air is that big of a deal, since 99% of us are not into dropping .1 of a second of our quarter mile times here...
