Thinking out loud mainly. I know there were regular 2.3's in the early Aeros, I assume they were terrible, given how much weight they were pushing around! Interesting concept, but I'm sure it'd be a bear to wire in the 2.3 computer into the stock wiring! :D -Adam

You might be better off with a Mustang V8 engine. Maybe you could find a 4 cylinder Ecoboost engine with turbo in a junkyard. I think they are primarily used on FWD set ups so it will be a project to get it to connect to a RWD transmission.

I have been thinking of putting a 5.0 in my van. How difficult do you think that would be? Maybe a 5.0 and transfer case from a 95 explorer?

Perry (one of the moderators on this site) once did it to his Aerostar. There's a Youtube video with a 5.0L blue Aerostar. I'm sure that other people have done this as well. It would be nice to see a step by step swap.

Well, I'm just speculating. Thinking about saving gas mostly. I'd already thought a 5.0 would be sweet, but that's not saving any gas!

Hi
Can I put a 99 mustang 3.8L engine and trans in my 94 3.0 aerostar?

What about swapping in a 2.3T out of an old turbo coupe or SVO mustang? That seems to be the most common route for the gen3 ranger guys, which have the same Lima 2.3's as the old aerostars, I think?

Yes, that's what I was thinking, it was already rwd, and the base motor was installed in Aeros breifly. -Adam
