'00 XLT 4X4 OHV
Good morning, ladies and gents!

I've searched the board and I'm pretty sure the IAC needs to be replaced but wanted to run the symptoms by the gurus first...

The X is a '00 XLT with the 4.0 OHV engine. Approx 49K miles.

This only happens every once in a while, and especially when it's humid out. Probably around 98% today...

I crank the engine, it fires up, and then idles really low and rough until it dies. If I tap on the gas a little bit and take it up to around 500-750 RPM it's perfectly normal.

Once I got out of the driveway and onto the street, I could accelerate with no problem- everything was smooth. But if I stopped at a light/stop sign idle would drop down to around 250RPM and stall. So I had to run a few stop signs this morning... :(

I've cleaned the IAC a couple of times as it was doing the "howling" thing this past winter. Could it finally be past the point of cleaning?

Just wanted some confirmation before I went out to buy the part.

Thanks, and have a great day!

Replace it and it should fix your problem.

I think that will definitely do the trick.

I hobbled up to the Ford dealership at lunch to pick up the part... And the truck was still misbehaving.

I left my tools at home (first mistake) so I grabbed a pair of pliers and a piece 'o s&*t vise-grips out of the toolbox from our office with the intent to change it out in the parking lot at Ford.

Well, the vise-grips didn't do the trick, so instead, I tapped on the IAC as the 4-letter words were flowing. Closed the hood and wouldn't you know it!?!? It started up wonderfully!

I think I'll make it home to change it tonight. But today taught me some things:

1. Never leave your tools at home
2. Never... EVER... trust tools made in China :)
