IAC Valve Help!

Okay, my 2001 X Sport has been having some cold start rough idle issues within the past month. I have determined that a good first step would be to replace the IAC valve to see if this fixes my idle issues. I purchased the OEM valve, disconnected the battery for a hour (make sure the sensor memory was cleared) and replaced the IAC valve. The truck started great and I drove it around in city traffic (Downtown Chicago) for a half hour and parked it in a garage. It sat in the garage for about 6 hours and when I went to start it it would not idle at all. The truck would backfire and die below 1000 RPMS. I had to drive it home with two feet reving it at the stop signs so it would not die. Once I got home I put the old IAC valve back in and the truck is running fine (still the old rough idle). Did I do something wrong with the valve replacement? Do I have to bring the truck to the dealer to reset the idle computer memory? Please help!

I do not know if you did anything wrong or not.

To reset the computer, simply disconnect the battery for about 15 minutes. There is no reason to take it to the dealer for that.

You should have disconnected the battery to reset the computer after you changed the part, not before. Try resetting again.

Could my new OEM IAC valve be bad? Also, is the only one IAC valve for each year? or are there different IAC calabrations for the same year depending on where the engine was built?

Could be the MAF as well. When each goes the symptoms are similar. Check and clean the MAF. It is possible that you got a bad IAC too.
