I did a search and found that the howling and dronning noise coming from my X was the IAC.

My question is, even though it is howling at times, off and on, the idle speed is normal, and unaffected. Do I still need to change this, or wait until the Idle speed is affected? Does the howling/drone noise affect anything?

I cleaned mine first, didnt help. So I just put a new one on.

Mine was so loud you could literally hear it 3 blocks away. Didn't affect anything else, just had the very loud noise.

Ok, thanks. I will keep driving her until I notice a difference in the Ide speed. So far, all is good, just noisy at times.

I would suggest replacing it...I had that howling and thought the same thing "I'm not pay $100 for this thing if all it does is cause a noise"....then...My truck just shot down, in the middle of the road, on a very icy day...not a good situation...replace it before you break down.

Pop off the black cap

The one that easily spins on the side of the IAC. There is a felt pellet filter element that pops out. Flick it with your finger to get the dirt out of it. You might find the howling stops. Mine was quite dirty. The function is to suck in fresh air so engine contaminants don't gunk the control shaft and cause sticking. A blocked filter will cause a pressure unbalance and oscillate the valve.
