Looking at the Intake Air Temp sensor & connector in the intake tube ('96 4.0L OHV), with the push-button connector release pointing towards the sky, which color wire is on the driver side & which on the pass side? Being a resistor (or thermistor i should say), does it even matter? My choices are gray and gray w/red stripe.
Here's why:
After cleaning the Throttle Body, i forgot to reattach the harness to the sensor and it was chopped off by the fan or belt. It twisted the harness until the connector was ripped off entirely.
My rant & subsequent rave:
Yesterday i stopped at one dealer & they ordered what i needed (after looking at the sensor, b/c it was extremely hard for them to "get the picture" over the phone). I went to pick it up today (always excited
to p/u parts, no matter what it is) and they had ordered the wrong one (ambient temp sensor harness - no good). They had nothing in their parts dept and "could not help" (stunning, i know - but i bet if they were making the repair they'd find it in a hurry). They recommended Carquest, who had only the AMBIENT temp sensor harness just like Ford. They recommended the junkyards. After being turned away at the junkyards (won't part a connector from an engine), i decided to see what another dealer could do.
I got on the phone with another Ford dealer and, after 10 minutes talking to a parts guy (very eager to help but getting nowhere), upon his asking for me to come in, i decided to take the 20 minute drive to go out there. After another 10 minutes looking up part numbers & staring at their Electrical Connector chart (HOLY **** there's probably 1000 different connectors from over the years) and again, getting nowhere, the excellent crew at Al Maroone Ford in Williamsville, NY, went into their "junk harness" bin and whattaya know, they found one for me on the first try. Hey, 1 dealer outta 2 ain't bad...
This is where i am now. If you're going out to your 4.0L OHV soon, take a look under the hood and post back - it'd be very much appreciated!
