I changed plugs and wires and put wires on in order they came out but now it will hardly run. It idles like crap and makes a popping noise if you give it gas.

What did I do wrong?

Also, can you ground out a plug wire? if so how?

You probably just have a loose wire somewhere. Either on the plug or the coil pack.

First off I think you must have mis-wired the engine. Are the wires numbered.

no there not numbered....I took one at a time so as to not have this happen.

I posted another questions relating to this topic about the order on the block and on the coil pack.

Can you help?

Are the plugs gapped properly?? What kind of plugs did you use?

WHEN MINE WAS MESSING UP, RIGHT AFTER STARTING IT, IT WOULD DIE OR WANTED TO...HOWEVER, IT WOULD STOP IF YOU PUT IT IN GEAR AND GO RIGHT QUICK...

THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE IDLER WAS MESSED UP...NOW BACK IN ACTION FOR PROJECT AGGRESSION

Four possibilities in descending order of probability.

1. One of the plug wires is not on all the way on the plugs or on the pack that they plug into. I did this myself. I simply forgot to hook up the last couple of wires into the coil pack.

2. You knocked off a vacum connection or removed one and forgot to put it back on. Usually somewhere around the back of the engine that you can't see easily.

3. You hooked the wires up to the wrong plugs.

4. You forgot to check the gaps on the plugs. One of the plugs got smashed so that there is no gap.

All are easy problems to fix.

Let us know.

Also check to make sure the plugs themselves are torqued down properly. I've seen them work loose the first few miles they're run and have to be re-torqued. For this reason I always torque them to the higher end of the range (16 ft/lbs for 1994 4.0 OHV)

Once I forgot to tighten the air tube connection at the throttle body. That will make it idle shi**y.

sorry 'bout the caps...
and there is another bad design...besides the rear wiper arm...(THE AIR TUBE)...mine hits the fan shroud and comes off if i budge it...it sux...
