Hello All,

Sorry if this has been covered a million times, but I did a search and didn't come to a conclusion. So here goes...

I have a 95 explorer with the 4.0L engine. Every now and then it would idle high, sometimes up to 2 grand, but would eventually fall down to a normal idle. I thought it was associated with it running a little on the cool side, so I replaced the thermostat.

Well, this didn't fix the high idle so I thought perhaps it was a dirty intake and MAF sensor. I used alcohol on the MAF and some throttle body cleaner on a rag for the intake. I shot some cleaner in the port that leads to the idle air control valve and well, the idle seems to be back to normal, BUT, now there is a strange noise. It’s a very noticeable drone, or hum that starts at about 1500 rpms, goes away at above 3000 and will eventually go away if you let it sit at idle. From what I've seen these symptoms can be associated IAC, but can anybody give me specifics on what may be wrong, and how I can fix it? Is there anything to try besides replacing it? Take it off and clean it? Thanks for the help guys. BTW, This is a great forum you've got going here.

If your IAC is bad, cleaning is very temporary. Usually they just need to be replaced.

The hum is caused by a bad IAC.

Well, I removed the IAC, cleaned it, and it definitely helped the noise, although it didn't completely go away. The idle is still kind of funky, so now I’m on to finding a new IAC.?

So where's the best place to get one of these babies, and how much can I expect to pay for one.

Thanks
