Depends why it is leaking. If it is because of a failed gasket or o-ring, then yes it can be fixed by replacing the seal. If the leak is due to a cracked manifold, then the manifold will need to be replaced. If you have a SOHC, then there is a strong possibility that it is leaking o-rings.

The dealership said that there is a leak, so they replaced the o rings. And they did not charge me anything cause I have 69k miles on my 97x. So I guess that's a good thing.

Thanks.

Steve,

Did the O-ring replacement fix the problem???? I'm getting ready to do this on my truck myself because I have more than the 72K on my truck.

I guess so. I came to the dealership and told them that I have a rattling noise coming from the engine. And I knew that fod has extended warranty on timing chain tensioner(to 72k) and lower intake manifold gasket. According to the two mechanics I went to before the ford dealership, they have told me that tensioner causing that sound. After Ford has checked my car they told me that leak in the intake manifold is causing the noise in the engine. Ford has replaced the o ring and it seems like the noise is gone. Its been two days since they did it. So I hope that its it.

What engine do you have? If its a 5.0 and your manifold is leaking don't try fixing it, just get some FMS headers b/c you'll end up having to get them anyway, the manifold on 5.0's has a fault that makes it leak and keep getting bigger until you replace them.

If you have a SOHC, you did mention the tensioner so..., I have no clue on that engine, probably your o-rings are leaking.
