2002 Explorer XLT
Which would it be??

2003 XLT. 4.0. Black. Charcoal non-heated leather. 7 passenger. Power everything incl moon roof. AM/FM/CD. Approx 107,000km (66,500miles)

2005 Eddie Bauer. 4.6. Loaded (no dvd). Tan heated leather. 7 passenger yada yada....Approx 105,000km (65,500miles).

I ask because that is the situation I'm in. Only 1 can stay. Looking for which you would keep and why. If you need any more details I'll be happy to provide them.

Thanks guys.

2005 all the way. It has the v8 and is newer. I guess what it may come down to is if you would rather have/need the extra $$ you would get out of selling the 2005 over the 2003.

edit: oops! i clicked the wrong vote on the poll:rolleyes:

I vote to keep the 05 V8...

you put enough money into it, and the 05 has had less exposure to the elements...

Of course you should keep the V8

keep the newer, V8, EB

My thoughts exactly. But my wife owns the XLT and loves it. I own the EB and we both love it. I'm stuck driving a mini-van for work so my EB sits neglected. And costs me $600 a month to sit there. Something has to give.

Id say keep the 05, since its the nicer one out of the two, plus its alot newer, and probably has had alot less problems than the infamous 02/03's lol

So far (knock on wood) both have been problem free.

But yes, the EB is a nicer truck, no doubt.

I hope thats not for insurance alone....wow....I am thinking of getting a 2005 EB I see for sale around my area. But wow second thought if $600 a month for insurance....:)

$84 every week for the payment, $110 a month for insurance. For 4 days of driving per month its way too much. If it was a Stang GT500, thats another story...but its not.

And I actually just got a new insurance company which dropped the $110 to $65... but that doesn't deal with the weekly payment.

WOW...scared me for a second....lol...good thing you cleared that one up for me. :)

whats the average mileage between both vehicles ?

i would imagine that they would be close considering the mods the V8 has...

if thats the same, then would say drop the 03...

It really depends, what is important to you (in performance, etc)?
personally, and i guess i'll be the first to say, i'd probably sell the newer V8 one and keep the v6. why? because IMO neither is fast enough to be like a "fun sports car" or whatever.. the v6'ers have more than enough power to be practical, and i'd rather have the extra fuel efficiency of the v6.. also the v8 (being that it's newer and has a v8) will bring more $ on the market.

oh, and i accidentally voted wrong. you're poll is worded confusing.

Mileage is damn near identical. And other than the muffler, everything moves over to the XLT if we sell the EB (lower airbox, K&N, SCT).

This isn't a 'which one is more fun' kinda thing. My wife will be driving the one we keep. She's quite happy to have it as close to stock as possible. I'm simply interested in what my fellow Explorer owners would do if faced with the same situation.

As for mileage, they are so close thats not a factor. And I just double checked the poll. "Which would you sell?", then the 2 choices. Not sure how thats confusing?

Almost identical mileage, i'm assuming if there's any difference, it's in favor of the v6? i'd still probably be in favor of the 03 personally. like i said before, you'll get more money back from selling the newer one and that's all money in you're pocket.

what i meant about the poll, was when i clicked on the 03, i was thinking more in terms that i was voting "for" that one, rather than voting against it by clicking on it. not a big deal.

the popular opinion seems of course to be for the newer, v8 powered explorer (probably because its v8).

one thing i will say about the v8 one though, is that since it's not black, paint care will be easier, and it will get less hot in the sun if that's something you're concerned with.

You're definately right about the paint and hot in the sun thing. The white/tan combo is way nicer in the summer than the black/charcoal. As for money in my pocket, pretty much every penny from either one will be going to pay off the car loan. And the one that stays will be around for a few more years at least.

I'm not in a position of HAVE to sell do to financial constraints, I want to sell. I could keep both and just keep making the payments, but for the amount I'm driving it (or lack thereof) I feel that the $600-ish I'm throwing at it every month is a waste and could be better used elsewhere.

I would be keeping the EB if i was in your situation, i have the v6 and always wish i had a v8, but yeah, imo keep the v8. :D

I'm def leaning that way, but my wife is ultimately the one who is driving the one we keep. I set this thread up so she could see more than my opinion on why I think keeping the 05 is the better way to go.

Another option I guess would be to adverstise both and let the market decide which one goes...

Put a for sale sign in both and see which one brings in the money first.
