How awesome is that------>:splat: On to business.

If any of you have any of the following, I would appreciate some advice.
F150 coilseats/shakles as a lift
A converter that allows for regular ac plugins
or a gps

I just want to know how well these things work on a first gen, and if the gps` voice gets very annoying. (Moms getting me a gps for Christmas, and i just want the other 2)

Thanks,
Jake

Oh, and I promise to get some new pics of my rig in my photobucket.

i have the ac inverter,i like it,, good portable lighting, and laptop power, and other things, and a gps, but mine is the microsoft streets and trips,, in my laptop, it gives turn by turn directions, but i don't find the voice annoying, i know i don't have a 1st gen , but there is not much difference as far as electrical is conserned ,

Thanks, I think I`m gonna get an inverter, if nothing else It`ll give me power to solder the wires in the truck.

I used to have a badass converter I used for my laptop. It was the size of a coke can, and fit in the drink holder. You could plug in a 3 prong cord like a laptop cord, and also connect your usb charger up to it, so my Ipod never died cause it was charging. It was only like 20-30 bucks and worked perfect but I think they went out of production.

If I can find a powerful enough one for cheap, I`d like to be able to power 90 watts worth of amp for my bass guitar. How sweet would that be, a rolling concert!

I have a 800 Watt inverter hard wired in mine. It runs a Cambell Hausfield 2 gallon air compressor that I use for airing up after the trails. It will run lights, laptops etc. I love having it.

I have GPS on my phone. (Verizon). Its gotten me lost a couple times, but when lost, It'll get you somewhere you know.

Coil spacers and shackles make for a good cheap lift, but be sure you need it first. You can fit 30" tires without issue, and some first gens have enough height to fit 31's, no lift needed. The spacer/shackle lift looks great with 31's, but stupid if you're riding on stockers. Also keep in mind the drawbacks...the amount of lift you get takes that much away from the downward travel of the suspension. You'll also need an alignment afterwards, so be super sure you have a place that can do it, and either has the right Ford bushings for the TTB front end, or get the bushings yourself for them to use.

Overall it's not bad if you're just looking for a lift to go with 31's.

Keep in mind there are 2" lift coils from Skyjacker that replace the front springs. Costs more than spacers, though. You can also throw on certain F-150 leaf spring packs for the rear and get lift with no shackles needed. Then again, OME makes 2.5" lift leaf packs for the Explorer too, but those are expensive.

As for the power inverter, it can be a handy thing to have. Some newer cars have a 115V outlet, so it makes an older vehicle a little more modern.

GPS..uhhh... I dunno, I still prefer my road atlas for the few times I don't know how to get somewhere.

Thanks for the input on everything. This website has great response time. I`m getting the GPS whether I want it or not.

one thing about the gps,, it is good to know the shortest way to get to a place with the gas prices now,, , ,:D:D:D

i LOVE gas prices right now, I'd gladly pay this much for the rest of my life if possible. I paid $1.58 a gallon for regular gas this morning. The fact that 20 dollars gives me a significant amount of gas in my tank, I'm ecstatic.

i got a 360 watt inverter that will run like that all day and start up surges up to 600 watts ....like others had said ...good piece of equipment to have .earlier this year we had a bad power outage and with no lights and at night ( 4 days this went on) haveing that little inverter made the difference...i ran lights in the house ,fans, and some rechargeable stuff like flash lights .

this year around x-mas i'm going to buy some green christmas tree lights and string them on the luggage rack of the explorer !

ho,ho,ho :p:

btw: right you are josh on gas...... i can fill up the x for around $20 now ...i'll take that over 40-50 ANY day !

I have two inverters in my truck.

One 350 watt from radio shack that runs the xbox 360 and is all that most people will need for charging ipods and laptops and such. And a 1500 watt unit for emergencies that at the moment is not working now that I think about it I need to go fix that thing.

I have f150 coils seats And autozone shackels. Takes away the last of the minivan look and is awesome with my 31" dunegrapplers.

Gps is gps. It's useful at times.

Keep in mind, the bigger the inverter you get the more noisy and less efficient it will be.

For instance. My 350 watt(I really recomend this one is like 50$) purrs like a kitten and is Mucho Efficiente.(made that up)

However my 1500 has three fans and sounds like a hair dryer. And it'l run the battery down fast if the engine is off.

Also remember that the watt rating on most will be a "peak" rating. Means it'l produce that much for about .05 seconds then explode. What you want to look for is "RMS" rating. That is constant output.
