Ok so I have a Vac Dissconnect Dana 35 on my 99 Mountaineer and the seal on the pass side with the dissconnect keeps leaking. I've had that thing replaced like 3 times... The axle was rebuilt once with all new bearings and seals about a year ago. What would make the seal keep going bad... CV axle.. bad bearing... Guys I'm clueless...

Bump????

Check the seal surface on the axle itself. If there is a groove worn, then all the seals in the world won't help. It will always leak.

hhmmm... yeah the axles from a 96 explorer so it's a bit old. So there may be some wear on it. I'll have to take a look when i pull the seal. So if it is worn is there anything you can do or i'm i looking for a new axle housing..?

Well, maybe. It's possible you could install a speedi-sleeve...but you would have to see how plausible that is and if you can find one the correct size. If not, then a new axle is your only option I can think of. On a rear axle, they offer "repair" bearings that move the bearing and seal to a fresh spot on the axle. I know of nothing like that for the front.

Alright, I'll have to look into this after I pull it this weekend hopfully. Thanks for the insight. Now I have a much better idea how to aproach this. Thanks again!
