I just got the lift support bracket recall performed on my 94X this week. Now I see on the news where Ford is going to recall ignition modules, and one of the vehicles with the module is 91-95 explorers. Has anyone recieved a recall notice yet, or heard anything about it? I think all this just happened this week, so its a little early yet probably. Just wondering.

havent heard about that...... i remember back in the day ford had a problem with the flaming ignition switch and that was only a tsb that burned peoples cars to the ground.....

The ignition recall does not affect the Explorer. It affects only Ford vehicles with TFI. The Explorer uses DIS. That reference should be for the '91-'95 4 cylinder Ranger. The 3 liter in the Ranger, and the 4 liter in the Ranger and Explorer has never used the system that is under recall.

Robert,
Do you know if a 94 E150 van would be included in the recall? My mom has 80,000 miles on hers and has had to have the ignition switch replaced 2 times already. It is starting to get bad again so hopefully they replace this one for free.

I don't know if a '94 E150 van uses TFI or not however the recall has nothing to do with the ignition switch. The TFI is a small cigarrette pack size module mounted to the distributer. When it is exposed to the underhood heat, it can fail which will cause the vehicle to stall. Check the van for a distributer. If it doesn't have a distributer, then it definately doesn't have TFI. If it has a distributer, then I'm not sure if it has TFI or not.

Oh well. I thought maybe she would get a free switch...I guess not. I think ford should still pay. I mean 3 ignition switches in 80,000 miles is sort of a lot, right? ;-)
