I am helping a friend with their new well new to them 93 ranger. the ignition switch is going out and is in need a swapping out. She went to autozone and the piece givin to her has 2 parts. however a mechanic told her its all one asspembly.
did we get the right part? the mechanic is more of a shade tree guy that I have seen mess up a few things over the years and been wrong on numerous occasions. I don't want to tear this open to find its the wrong one and all the work be for nigh

can anyone verify that a new ignition switch would come in 2 seperate peices.

on a side not the ebrake gas gauge and speedometer doesnt work as well as the passenger doors is missing a handle.

the gas gauge will be fixed hopefully today when we drp the tank. Ive been searching the site and found tons of usefully info but not exactly what i need.

A where would i start looking for the hookup for the speedometer and what do i looke for to know if it needs replacing or hooking back up

and the ebrakes cord is just hanging under the truck with tons of slack, i have no idea where to begin on that.

any help is appreciated especially with the ignition

i know this is alot for one post but i didnt want to clutter.

...Without the Part Number or even a picture, it would only be a guess at best...:dunno:

...Some people call the "Ignition Switch" the part you stick the key in...Today's vehicles have a different part called the "Ignition Switch" and the part you stick your key in is now called the "Lock - Ignition" (Cylinder & Keys)...

...Look at the first diagrahm in this thread for the "Ignition Switch"..;)

I replaced my "Lock - Ignition" several years ago. Simple to do, once I read the manual which explained how to release the wheel lock which held in the ignition lock.

If you are changing this part, you either need to have it re-keyed by a locksmith, or have new keys cut with the new ignition key and your existing door lock keys.

i dont have much help for the ign switch....but you dont need to drop the tank to do the sender.....just unbolt the bed and dissconnect the tail light connector and lift it up....or off...it only takes 3 people....2 can manage.

thanks the pics were exactly what i needed, we got it swapper out as well as the new muffler and the new fuel pump thanks everyone for the help

Replacing the actual Ignition Switch -91~94 Ranger & Explorer

This is a question more than a reply.

It would appear that the actual ignition switch can be replaced by simply;

1. Pull steering wheel.

2. Remove the upper and lower plastic covers to expose parts.

3. Carefully mark Ign switch position, remove two bolts, unhook rod.

It does not appear that the key part, the cylinder, needs to be removed.

Is that correct?

Thanks;

...You do not need to remove anything else but possibly just the cover(s)...

...When you look at the diagrahm, take note of the support bracket location for the steering column as it has 2 bolts that hold it up at the bottom of the dash...You will find the ignition module down there...;)

replacing the lock ignition switch, 87' ford ranger 4x4 with tilt, can someone please help, it has a pin I drilled (since i don't have the key) do I really have to drill in the center of the key channel ( where the key goes) ? to get it out/
