this truck is killing me lately!
I have 73k miles on the truck...extended warranty expired in December.
Within a week, the A/C system is needing a compressor and accumulator do to leak. Replaced the belt and serp tensioner on the truck today. This afternoon I go to lower the passenger window and it won't go down by pressing the passenger side switch, or the driver side switch for the passenger. Anything else?!

Yep, one more thing goes wrong with my X and I will trade it in for a foreign car. I've put a lot of money into it and have taken good care of it.

just curious but a leak in your ac shouldnt mean you need to replace the compressor... unless its leaking at the compressor... the accumulator is a well known leakerster on these because of the blanket around this but this is about a 100-150 dollar job to install a new one and get the system evac'ed and recharged... by the way.. how do you like your borla system... im thinking about getting one hows the sound and did it improve your mileage at all...

Yeah, the A/C is a whole other story in another thread. Dealer wanted $946 to fix it. I told em to forget it.
As for the Borla system. Money well worth it. The thing will truly outlive the truck. Looks brand new. Can't say that it did a whole lot for mileage, as I like to get on it even more since I got it..just to hear it. Sounds nice. It's a good deal if you don't mind a drone cruising down the highway.

I'm a diehard "bowtie guy", but it's not like they are much better. My Z28 and Trans Am are money pits. Window motors breaking, spark plugs fouling, 02's clogging, door skin cracking, mysterious interior rattling, dash cracking, switch breaking, overheating F*****G money pits!!!!!! :fire: Phew...had the rant. Anywho, I know how you feel, even if it is from the other side! :D

Don't feel bad guys, my friend at work has replaced his 4runner 4 banger engine three times and it only has 152K miles! He does religious oil changes, but he is definitely hard on the pedal.
I do know how you guys feel, I just paid to have my tensioner fixed in my SOHC, stupid previous owner didn't even bother doing the TSB.

I thought that the tensioner was a known issue and that it was covered none the less if it had not been fixed before?!

Only up to 100K miles. I am at 120K, so my car was overdue. I was quite surprised though, I actually saw the part and it looked great, with the exception of some wear down the middle of the tensioner. NO breakage and no split ends- it looked pretty damn good for 120K miles!!

You've got a 6 year old truck. Replacing the tensioner/belt is normal maintenance, you can't complain about that. It sounds like you may not need the compressor replaced, just the accumulator. And you've got a window motor out. $60 part, tough to put in, but stuff happens with cars. I don't care what brand of car you buy, in 6 years and 75K miles, things are going to break. People act like if you buy a Honda or Toyota, you don't do anything but change the oil and you get 200,000 trouble-free miles. Not true. If you ask me, you've got a normal vehicle and its time to bite the bullet and deal with it.

I hear ya...just been spoiled under warranty for the past few years. It runs great..I'm not really complaining. I tell people all the time, if you told me when I bought the thing that the engine and tranny would fall out of it after 80-100k miles, and buying a Jap vehicle would mean no problems...I still would buy the Ford.

I cannot express how sick I am of hearing that crap. Cars are cars, parts will break and components will wear down. No car is exempt from physics, I don't care what any car salesmen moron says.
Besides, after seeing how much my fiance's dad has put into his 87 landcruiser, which he has babied, I would never buy a toyota. He spent more money on that thing than my dad did for his bronco, and they were the same year, same mileage, etc. It wasn't even a comparison.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm 2/3 of the way through my warranty and I know damn well something big is going to break 1,000 miles after it expires. I've been lucky and only had to use it twice since I bought it. (alternator and transfer case flange) I bought it with 75,000 miles and its at 99,000 now.

Yep, I feel the same way. Everybody has some the same story about how one car they had 20 years ago was a POS and they'll never buy American again. But when Volkswagens have multiple problems (and they do, the brand new ones, constantly) its just part of owning a German car and you're supposed to still love the thing. One thing goes wrong with an American car and its a POS. It just takes a long time to overcome stereotypes. For a long time, American companies truly did build crap, as recently as the mid 90's with Chrysler especially. Take a look how many Chryslers from that era you see with the paint falling off the trunk/roof already. And check the resale value/reliability record of a first gen Dodge Intrepid, maybe the least reliable used car out there. I just grew up with a father that buys mostly American cars and takes great care of them, and we've never had a problem. Right now my parents own a 98 Windstar and a 96 Camry, both with around 150,000 miles and neither has had any major issues. But the Camry has had more nagging problems (constantly warped rotors, radio antenna issues, nothing big just little stuff). Buy what you like, take care of it, and you'll do pretty well, no matter what country the vehicle is from.
