Im am going to look into buying this ranger

I just saw it tonight. It is a 1999 ext. cab ranger, black, 5" rcd coilover susp. lift, 285/75 r17 BFG M/T's, rollpan, 66,000 miles, with alot of extra goodies. I might be a little off on the tire size, I forget the exact size but thats close I think.

Anyway hes asking $14,000 OBO Is that reasonable for a truck like this? Im gonna call him tomorrow. Either way on what happens with this ill get some pics of it.

See if he has reciepts for the stuff he added. Check if the lift was done by a shop or by him and his buddies. If it was done by a shop, check to see if the shop is a reputable place. If it was done by him and his buddies, make sure they know what they were doing and did not "Rig" anything. Make sure he also has manuals for the things he added, especially the lift kit, in case something goes wrong you will be able to pull it apart and put it back together.

what kind of engine does it have? Is it auto or manual? is it 4X or 2X? The mileage doesn't sound bad, sounds like normal driving. Find out if he did the 60k service.. Also is it 2 door or 4 door? Personally if I was yo I would look into 4 doors.. They make stuff so much easier..

If its a 2WD than Edmunds lists a fully optioned XLT with a 4 litre for right around 9K. You can give him a couple grand for the suspension and tires and say 11K..

For a 4X they show it as 10,500 for private party sale. So either way I wouldn't say more than 13K. If its a 4X offer the guy 12K and see what he does..

I'd say it's a little too pricey unless it is absolutely showroom. The guy has probably started high, and is probably willing to work a little on the price.

I was so excited buy the looks of the truck and the susp.lift I failed to get all that info. The truck is about 30 minutes away from me where my duaghter does cheerleading, Im going back up tomorrow after work to look into it more and get some pics.

I thought it was just a reg, extended cab. I know it has 4:10 gears but I assumed it was 4wd with a 4.0. I also know its an auto. He stated on the for sale sign that all original parts go with the truck.

Take a good look at the welds on the RCD C/O kit (where the gussets have to be welded to the frame rail)... those bear the weight of the entire frontend so they have to be good.

And 14k is too high IMO, even with the lift and tires. that can actually hurt the resale value in most markets.

I sold my truck when I got the explorer. I have been wanting another for awhile now to haul stuff. I really dont need something like this but if I can get a good enough deal id take it.

you can definitely talk him down a lot. KBB lists prices way to high tobegin with. take my explorer for instance. the dealer was asking 10,900 for it. kbb listed it at 9000. i got it for 6500, and it is mint. throw a looball number at him and see what he says. the worst he can say is no,and youll have to throw a higher one at him.

oh, and a secret i figured out is: lie.

make stuff up,especially if he doesnt know about the lift, like he had it done. point at things that arent broken and say they are. then say it will cost twice as much to fix as it really would. good luck!

Haha that seems rather familiar to what I did when I purchased the mountaineer. Though thats some tough negotiating Fred - DAMN!

Dealer wanted close to 8,500. I ended up getting it for 6,000. The A/C was broken and i convinced him the head gaskets were leaking. Maybe it was my super mechanic sense, or bad karma, but they did leak about 1.5 years later
