'98 XLT
after owning a 91' XLT with a manual tranny for 2 years, and being ok with the power it had. I got a 98' XLT with the 4.0 SOHC and was really impressed in the amount of power it had compared to the older one. My mom has a 2000 sport and i blow her away cause she's got the OHV which sucks compared to the SOHC. i can only imagine what the 5.0 feels like. Is there a whole lot of difference in power between the two?

you can't even imagine how fast a modded 5.0 would be... can you?

I got a stock 5.0 and I gotta tell you on the highway it's a dream.

Power between the SOHC and the 5.0 is roughly the same, with the 5.0 having more torque (better for towing). However, the 4.0 SOHC (when not grenading itself :) is actually quicker too 60 in the pre-02 Explorers due to the 5 speed auto they used (5.0 only has a 4 speed).

I own a 98 sport with a SOHC and it moves pretty well even more so after i started working on it and keeping it in better conditions then when i baught it, I've also driven a 2003 explorer V8 and in my opinion it had more pick-up then my slightly modded truck, and recently i took a expadition (eddie bauer edition) out and even more impressed on how it handled and moved for such a large SUV, I think the next truck i would like to take for a spin would be a lightning maybe smoke it up a little going down the road!!!
